Vermont Avenue has officially opened this morning.
The anticipated opening was reported on TLS earlier this week.
Vermont Avenue, which is now connected from Chestnut Street to Route 70, is expected to ease congestion in the area.
Lakewood Township Engineer Terry Vogt of Remington and Vernick relates that the road leading to this day entailed several twists and turns. Chestnut Street is a County Road and Route 70 is a State Road. Building and improving the roads entailed the maneuvering of myriad environmental and regulatory obstacles and bureaucratic red tape.
“We appreciate the faith and support we received from the Township at every step of this lengthy process,” says Mr. Vogt. “Like everyone else, we now look forward to improved traffic flow on our commutes through town!”
Now open Vermont to Oak
Another Route 70 intersection that will have more accidents. It’ll be the same as New Hampshire and Massachusetts Avenues.
Agreed, just moved the congestion to Rt 70 thats all it did. I would imagine sometime today someone will fail to stop at the jug handle stop sign (near WAWA) and either get hit or hit someone driving straight thru or someone from the north side of Vermont will try and make a left onto 70 east and not realize the opposing traffic is going straight thru the light. Never mind how many people are going to be racing thru to try and beat the light.
On Sunday traffic was backed up from Rt9 to this new intersection. Can you guess why? Hint- many flashing red & blue lights at this intersection.
This is not a solution. Because if it take SEVEN years for such a small road…
This has now made more traffic at the intersection and bigger wait times to turn from Vermont avenue south onto rt 70 west….perhaps a turning arrow should be implemented…only 2 – 3 cars can make the turn the way the light is presently
This is an excellent addition to the local infrastructure.
There does need to be functional 3 color lights at the intersection. Driving by today it’s a mess of cars piling up in both directions. as its a blinking red on the 2 ends (stop sign) and flashing yellow (drive slowly/cautiously) both directions of Chestnut st. This causes traffic to be in the hands of the drivers and their communication from behind the wheel. Very Very Dangerous as of now.
PLS FIX ASAP
rabosay its time you learned the institution is rotten at the core, we need to have meeting with askunim, and put people with seichel and common sense into office to make sure things are planned properly and done it a efficient and time sensitive way. Just about every new road pattern they have done lately has come with serious issues, doesn’t anyone realize there’s a deeper issue here??
It’s a work in progress. I’m sure that they can tweak the timing of the lights.
Very helpful for those who want to go East on 70 from route 9.
