A 53-year-old Lakewood man has admitted being an unregistered home-improvement contractor as well as writing checks totaling more than $2,000 from a checkbook he stole from a friend. Daniel Guastaferro of Neil Avenue, Lakewood, pleaded guilty Monday before Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr. to engaging in home-improvement contracting between 2007 and 2008, although he was not registered as a contractor with the state Division of Consumer Affairs, as required by state law. Under the terms of a plea bargain, Guastaferro will be required to make full restitution to the victim, Ericka Stern, and will face a jail term of 364 days. Guastaferro could have faced up to five years in prison for the theft, and up to 18 months in prison for unregistered home-improvement contracting. Read full article in APP.
