Dear Lakewood Scoop:
L’toeles Harabim, I want to make the Scoop audience aware of a government-subsidized preschool program for 3- and 4-year olds that has been operating in town for years that is underutilized. If more people were aware of it, and the incredible value the oilam could have from it, it would grow and benefit so many more of our kehilla.
Head Start II, a free federal preschool program geared to our community, provides educational, nutritional, medical and other services to eligible children. Eligibility is based on income and family need. Kosher (KCL) breakfasts and lunches are provided along with a professional preschool educational program that is identical to the education provided by the many playgroup and preschool providers in our kehilla.
For a number of years, Head Start, a federally funded free pre-school program for eligible children, has been operating a separate program geared to our community out of the Bais Shaindel building on Rt 9. The facility and teachers are top quality and the program is free for qualified applicants. As with many programs, the level of funding and slots are dependent on the number of people applying. As of now, a limited number of slots are available for the next school year and will be awarded based on federal criteria. It is imperative that you apply as soon as possible as the program is accepting applications beginning January 10th and for a limited time.
Contact Mrs. Rikki Reich at 732-364-4333 ext. 17 for more information and to make an appointment to apply.
Not to mention thd two most amazing, warm, Toradic and Proffesional!

Been sending my kids there for 17 years and they really have the frum community and our needs down pat by now. they’re always open to comments and ideas for improving the program and catering to us
What does “federal criteria” mean? Sounds a little mysterious to me.
I will call to find out if I qualify. I guess this is about income.
I will call to find out if I qualify. I guess this is about income. What other services does a federally overseen program provide? someone said my kids could get dental or other services through Head Start that they dont get through my jerseycare. also any other identified needs that I agree to. is that correct?
What do they serve for breakfast and lunch?
Dental? That would be great. Think as a parent I can get dental care through Head Start too if my kid gets in…
Do they service children with special needs? Is it at all connected to STARS- also located in the Bais Shaindel building?
is that for real? why havent we heard of this before? how do I get a mass signup sheet so I can get all my friends in with me?
Why wasnt this posted before Tu B’shvat? My kids are already enrolled in playgroups! I wish I would have known about this before. Just wondering what those people who apply do about signing up for playgroups
well here goes another choshen mishpat thing. Mom is right, the timing could have been better. Or maybe, the system needs to allow those who are fortunate (?) enough to qualify for this to back out of a playgroup that will cost them thousands. any ideas, people? we might as well suggest “shtuht” policy here, it might actually come to something.
who pays for it?
tell the כל האמת
the FEDERAL GOVT. thats who. not the local taxpayer, not a dime!
so sign up already
