Unattended Suitcase Closes Part Of Route 9

PHOTOS & VIDEO: [UPDATED 5:05 PM] An unattended suitcase has closed off a portion of Route 9 at 7th Street, as earlier reported on our News Alerts. The baggage is located in the parking lot of the Capitol Hotel, where the Lakewood-Brooklyn bus picks up passengers.

Police have closed off Route 9 between 6th Street and 8th Street, as well as 7th Street at Clifton Avenue and Forest Avenue, as they await the County.

UPDATE: The bag turned out to be a suitcase full of children’s clothing, an official says.

  1. So someone was in a hurry to board the bus and forgot the suitcase, come on people, every time you see something doesn’t mean it is a bomb. Where do you think we live?

  2. Thank you LPD for taking our safety and security very seriously.

Imagine if the suitcase turned out to be something more sinister. The typical comments on TLS would be, “Where are the police? Why are they so busy writing tickets? Why don’t they care? We need more police! We need less police! We need LCSW! We don’t need LCSW!” etc.

Well, guess what! The stopped writing tickets, they came in droves, they blocked off Rt 9, they did all they could to ensure our safety and security.

    THANK YOU LPD!!!!

  3. To The first 4 posts, How about you save the county and the LPD a lot of time and anytime you hear about an unattended package run over to it and kick it, then open it. Thanks for your support.

  4. At what point will we start to hold these irresponsible people for their actions. We fine those whose false house alarms burden the police and now it is time to address the irresponsibility of those who cannot keep an eye on their luggage. This cost us all.

  5. i commend the police and all emergency personnel for responding and checking for the safety of my loved ones.

what i cant stand is letting careless people off without any sort of fine to repay for the services rendered based upon their carelessness.

if your drive carelessly = ticket. why not if you cause a public alarm based upon sheer carelessness? NOT FAIR TO THE TAX PAYERS.

  6. I was wondering why I had to get off rt 9… but come to think of it- IF IT WAS A BOMB boy am I glad that I wasnt near it!

THANK YOU Lakewood Police for helping bring Safety to all of us.

False alarms happen – BUT THEY COULD BE REAL and we are lucky to have so man trained officers doing their job correctly to protect us!
