U.S. Department of Energy Cancels $716 Million Loan Guarantee For JCP&L

The loan was approved by the Biden Administration just days before Trump took office this past January

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has withdrawn a $716 million conditional loan guarantee that had been awarded under the Biden administration to support a massive Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) energy infrastructure project.

The loan guarantee was intended to help Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) finance the New Jersey Clean Energy Corridor, a transmission project designed to carry offshore wind power to the regional grid. Once completed, the project was expected to deliver enough electricity to power about 1.6 million homes annually.

However, DOE’s Loan Programs Office said the termination aligns with the current administration’s reassessment of federal support for offshore wind and other clean energy initiatives. The move follows a series of policy rollbacks affecting renewable energy, including the Transportation Department’s recent decision to cancel a combined $679 million in funding for offshore wind projects in 11 states.

The JCP&L loan was approved by the Biden Administration just days before Trump took office this past January.

The move follows a recent social media post from President Trump in which he slammed New Jersey’s wind energy projects, blaming them for the skyrocketing electricity costs and energy shortages.

“STUPID AND UGLY WINDMILLS ARE KILLING NEW JERSEY,” Trump wrote in his post. “Energy prices up 28% this year, and not enough electricity to take care of state. STOP THE WINDMILLS!”

Locally, JCP&L capacity issues have been holding up the development of office buildings in Lakewood, Jackson and Manchester townships, due to a lack of sufficient power, which also causes frequent power outages in Ocean County.

In addition the statewide power issues, Lakewood Township is constantly being hit with power outages, an issue that JCP&L has been slow to tackle.

Lakewood has experienced over a dozen widespread blackouts this summer alone.

While we need to keep pace with demands for power ,windmills are not the answer and as far as holding up development for office buildings that might be a good thing , in my opinion over development has hurt the quality of life in this town

Why isn’t wind power one of the answers? Do you have some solid facts to support your opinion?

Wind power doesn’t generate enough power.

Its well known.

NJ is woke and run by woke. You don’t expect them to do their homework, do you?

for one thing it is environmentally destructive and without subsidies it is costly way of producing power

Because it’s intermittent which means that you still need to build a reliable power generation source to match the expected output of the wind turbines (in which case the turbines are really redundant) or add in a massive battery bank to balance supply.

Either of these solutions mean extremely costly energy at a time when JCP&L are already raising rates by nearly 20%.

This money is just another green energy scam. The corruption is enormous. The expenses are way over budget and unaccountable.

The only “green” is based on corruption of science and politics. Fraudulently wasted and laundered while milking the taxpayers.

What can I say. Trump is uniformed

One the one hand, the price of electric in NJ is up because there is too much demand and not enough new sources coming online quick enough to meet that demand.

On the other hand, permits, active construction, and grants are being blocked because wind power doesn’t meet an ideological test.
