Two Lakewood street names changed after emergency responders confuse streets

Two street names in Lakewood were switched to help fist responders avoid future confusion.

Last year, TLS reported emergency care was delayed after first responders mixed up street names. Immediately after that incident, an unoccupied street was easily changed.

The Township has now made two changes to occupied streets, and more are expected to come.

Grand Avenue has been changed to Palm Court, and Heckel Way (at Cedarbridge and New Hampshire) is being changed to Hunter Drive.

Some other confusing street names include Eden Court and Eden Lane, Cedar Court and Cedar Street, Manetta Avenue and Manetta Place, and more.

If you read the articles headline you will see that this was done for emergency’s. If someone I cared about needs an ambulance I wouldn’t want the driver having to type in the info on a GPS… seconds can mean the difference between life and death.

@ Miriam, if your address changes, you should notify everyone of the change just like when you move to a new home.

How about Pine Street and Pine Blvd?

They should change to palm-grand instead of an entirely new name.

, this is not Queens. Let’s keep the confusion out.

I agree with M…it should be changed to something like “old grand” or “grand- palm” to lessen the confusion and impact on people already living there.

How about the E 9th – E 8th (Lawrence ave and Park ave) also very confusing

It’s like moving without actually moving. Potential to cause major headache. Usps will most likely update their records because they probably coordinate with the municipality. Ups or FedEx and others may take a long time to update and you’ll never get another package for a while. Similar thing happened in md. Not only did my customer not get his package but ups also lost it.
