A young man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Toms River yesterday, police say.

At approximately 5:06 pm, police and medical units responded to the intersection of Fischer Boulevard and Fairview Drive.  Upon arrival they located thirty seven year old Richard Bococinski injured in the roadway.

Bococinski, of Fairview Drive, was struck by a 2003 Mercury. The driver, 47, was traveling North in the right lane of Fischer Boulevard and stated that Mr. Bococinski stepped into the roadway and he had no time to take evasive action. Mr. Bococinski was transported to a local hospital where he died later in the evening.

The crash is under investigation by Toms River Traffic Officer Mark Nater and Ocean County Prosecutors Office Detective Brad Frank. The crime scene was processed by members of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department C.S.I Division.
