TRAGEDY AVERTED: New Police Officers Stop Alleged DUI Driver Driving While Slumped over Wheel on Crowded Downtown Street

keithTwo new Lakewood Police Officers are being hailed as heroes for averting a potential tragedy on a crowded downtown street this afternoon.

While patrolling on foot on Second Street today, recently-hired Special Officers Andrew Meyer and Keith French noticed a driver driving down the road while slumped over the wheel.

Sources tell TLS the officers immediately gave chase of the vehicle, and began banging on the window to get the driver’s attention. The driver awoke, and was able to brake in time to avoid hitting nearby vehicles and pedestrians on the busy downtown street.

The approximately 25 year old driver, who was bleeding, was apparently under the influence of drugs.

He was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody, police confirm.

  1. Way to go guys good for you . They did an awesome thing but being a wife of a police officer I hear of things like this happening all the time .

  2. Thanks to the police officers for a brave job well done. MOst likely if we had a stronger crackdown on the gang and drug activity in this town less of this would happen.

  3. just wanted to add my thanks ! Second Street is always incredibly busy– a real tragedy was averted! Thank you Officers Meyer and French!
