TRAFFIC ALERT: Year-Long Construction Project to Begin on Cedarbridge Avenue in Lakewood [UPDATED – Timing Changed in Response to Numerous Complaints]

Starting tomorrow, for approximately one year, at least one lane will be shut on Cedarbridge Ave eastbound for construction 8 PM-6AM between MLK and Vine Street. The timing was changed in response to numerous complaints.

Ocean County received a grant for this project through the NJTPA’s FY 2017-2018 Local Safety Program (LSP). The grant includes funding for construction and construction inspection services. The project will improve safety and overall operations along the corridor, including at five intersections.

Project Details

Improvements will include: traffic signal upgrades and dedicated left-turn lanes on Cedar Bridge Avenue at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Vine Avenue; installation of a median with pedestrian refuge islands at both intersections; and bicycle compatible shoulders along the corridor.

About the Project Area

Cedar Bridge Avenue is a four-lane, heavily travelled east-west corridor that connects the Garden State Parkway to Route 9. Two intersections within this corridor are ranked first and second on the NJTPA’s list of high-crash intersections in the County, and the corridor is ranked 14th overall in the NJTPA region. The project area is predominantly residential with small businesses fronting on Cedar Bridge Avenue and is close to downtown Lakewood. Lakewood is the fastest growing municipality in the state.

Expect heavier-than-usual delays.

  1. Hey selfish, I live 100 feet off of Cedarbridge on Arlington. I know night construction won’t keep you up at night but there are many people in our neighborhood that would be kept up every night for an entire year.

    • You don’t sound like such a Chachom. The entire town needs to have traffic issues so you can sleep at night? Because of your proximity, once completed, you will be one of those who benefit from this project the most, and you want it to inconvenience the whole town instead of you. And then you go calling other people selfish.

    • I don’t live near thr area, but when they did construction near my home for a few nights in a row, it was really terrible for us. None of us slept, adults, kids, babies and it was a cranky period

        • Yes because you guys can accommodate according to traffic why should I have to accommodate for everyone else I’m not selfish I’m realistic

          • No we can’t accommodate according to traffic when traffic is already unbearable even without the construction, and therefore the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

  2. At least one lane? Does that mean they might close the whole thing?
I propose they should use one westbound lane to go eastbound in the morning

  3. Good Morning to all and welcome to 08701. why you surprised? rt 9?county line? east end and county line intersection ? chestnut and new Hampshire? 7th and Princeton ? oak and the 9? chestnut and the 9? no parking on this side of street not enforced? (see mary lane near food ex)parking on corners not enforced?
so why should this be any different???

    • parking on corners is an ongoing issue, people still think they’re in the NYC . Unfortunately, most Lakewood police officers turn a blind eye.

  4. This construction is needed because of the overwhelming population growth in Lakewood. And, yes many intersections and roads are in need of a major upgrade.

  5. I live on Prospect and have been dealing with night time construction for a while. It made my house vibrate and was impossible at times to park close by, however night is still way better than day.

  6. I love the UPDATE which says that timing was changed in response to numerous complaints. Didn’t they know there would be complaints about this project? Why couldn’t they just schedule it at a more convenient time in the first place? Typical Lakewood to be reactive instead of proactive.
