Toyota Motor Corp., the world’s biggest carmaker, said it will recall about 400,000 Avalon sedans globally to fix faulty steering locks. The company will recall 7,000 vehicles in Japan tomorrow, followed by recalls in the U.S., Saudi Arabia and Canada, according to Mieko Iwasaki, a company spokeswoman. The problem may affect as many as 370,000 cars in the U.S. built between 2000 and 2003, she said.
Toyota received seven complaints globally about the steering lock-bar failing, and no accidents have been reported, Iwasaki said.
The company is also recalling 80,000 Land Cruiser sport utility vehicles worldwide to fix steering shafts, she said. Bloomberg
