The Township will be purchasing three new Chevrolet Tahoe Sport Utility Vehicles for the Lakewood Police Department, should the purchase be approved. The SUVs – to mainly be used by shift Supervisors – is intended to save the Department time by storing emergency equipment in the spacious trucks, thereby saving money.
Currently, the Department has several SUVs sponsored in part by the UEZ, which are only used for the UEZ zones (i.e. Clifton Avenue), except for emergencies.
The Committee is to expected to vote on the purchase tonight.
I hope they use Elite emergency lights.
Thank Capt. Miick for that one
Bad job pasting the emblem on your picture.
I sure hope LPD does better than that!
I hope it does NOT get approved these things cost $60,000 a piece! what a waist of our tax money!!!
of course they won’t consider buying a used one…they lose half their value after the first 2 years…hey, its not their money….who cares!
google chevy tahoe ssv it seems they cost 26k apiece
they want to spend money to save money sound familliar can anyone say Public Works Building that really has saved us millions no billions.
are they selling the old ones? is there acountability with the fleet?
Go Elite lights!!!!
i bought a brand new 2009 Suburban from 123 Auto Deals and had it outfited at Elite Emergency Light and it was allot cheaper than what lpd is paying. I have 2 mobile radios and more lights and sirens than lpd puts in and it was still cheaper they should call Elite and 123 Auto Deals and start saveing our money.
will (moderated) get to drive these?????????
Whats Elite Emergency lights Phone #?
First of all, many emergency vehicles take more of a beating then a regular car. The wear and tear is not like a regular car. When I call 911
I don’t want to worry about a vehicle breaking down on the way to an emergency. Less maintenance and better gas mileage saves money in the long run. But we need more cops, many are retiring. The census figures say we qualify as a city…lets become one already.
I have experience in the auto repair industry and SUV’s should hold up allot better then fords and will be safer and better in the snow.

If you drove your car non-stop, almost 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on residential streets (that need paving) I think you’d need new cars/trucks more often. kinda like the police dept.
come on let the cops drive in comfort and save lives
settle down number 4 they DONT cost 60k a piece. you can get all three NEW for around 80k. So it is not a waste of our tax money there are MANY things that are a waste but supporting the LPD no money is wasted. So get some facts before you open your mouth blabbering stupid comments.
Elite emergency lights # is (848)525-6950 they do great work I had a Bluetooth and a back up camara put in by them and they do a+ work.
Everybody knows that police packaged Tahoe is around 26k but what every one forgets is all of the up fitting for the necessary police gear that still needs to go into the vehicle. Lights and sirens are the smallest part of the package. An estimate of 60k is probably pretty close to accurate
On the agenda the price was listed at roughly $28,000 a piece which would equal $84,000.
I wonder who will be driving these cars. I was told that at any given time there are only between 6-8 cops on the lakewood roads(and 2 are always giving tickets on clifton). This is due to retirements and budget constraints. Maybe, instead of byuing new cars/equipment they should be hiring new cops to prevent the killings/robberies that have been happening lately.
They don’t learn their lesson from what happened to bob singer! STOP SPENDING OUR MONEY!!
Sorry but if there is one place to spend al the dough that Lakewood is getting from all that RE taxes it should be the police dept. Nothing else.
I know of two different times when a cop was on a way to a call and there car broke down on them. I am sure that happens a lot more then twice though. its a scary thought.
Was that a threat because I do believe Bob won over HH and no one thought he would. Also spending money on keeping this town safe is not a bad investment and the only people who think it is, must not think very much.
There is so much false information listed above that its a waiste of time to read. Fully outfitted Police SUV’s dont run $60k more like $35k
There are more like 12 to 16 cops on patrol. People we get what we pay for, if you dont support purchasing SUV for the police then dont call the police if you need help when therse 12 inches of snow or the road is flooded. Also how do you think the police transport the light towers and orange cones we are always asking for?
10 cops for 25 square miles? And half of them are busy giving tickets etc.
they said they were not going to buy more
and look at Brick they have the oldest fleet in the state and they do just fine
wast our money
#10 it sounds like your a Hatzolah or Lakewood Vol. First Aid member. do you have a permit for those lights?
Hey, let them get the equipment they need to HELP US !!! Next thing you know all the “experts” here will be telling the cops what type of guns and bullets they should buy , please leave them alone to do their job and give them all the equipment they need to do it with !!!
to #10-
Hope you and your fellow buddies have permits for all those lights & sirens….
The way you guys run code3 around town has begun to irritate people(not to mention endager more lives).
Getting your car towed and or multiple tickets issused(with court appearace required) to explain & prove to a judge if the equipment has been removed or not- is gonna start getting expensive for you guys.
Take this as a warning….
Laws are written to keep things safe and organized. Cops are there to enforce said laws. Tickets are written by Cops to those breaking the law as punishment and hopefully a deterant to doing said law breaking again, thusly saving lives of the innocent by correcting stupid driving. If everyone drove safely and followed all the rules, the Cops could spend their time patrolling and detering other more serious crimes. It is a well known fact that the only one’s who cry about giving tickets, are those receiving tickets. Blame yourselves that the Cops are tied up writting tickets, because it is your fault for rolling through a stop sign, for being on your cell phone etc. Another funny thing is all the people that cry about there not being enough cops, or wasting tax payers money on the Police Dept., usually are the ones not paying their taxes….Just saying
They need the vehicles and to have SUV”s does make sense because they can carry the equipement that is needed. Would you rather have it locked up at the PD and have to wait for someone to go get it. That could make the difference between someone living or dying. Also, not matter what vehicles are purchased, you still have to put lights and sirens and radios in them. I would rather see the SUV;s since they are good for all types of weather. I also agree that we need more police in this town. Many are retiring and they are not being replaced. If this keeps up,the gangs will completely take over. As it is now, they control certain sections of town.
#29 Brick does not have the oldest fleet, they also are replacing cars and SUVS. Why are some of you opposed to giving the Police essential tools needed to serve YOU? I don’t think we should be putting a value on saving lives or serving the community. We should all feel lucky enough to know what is going on with our tax money.
I am a member of more than one vol. Ems and I have permits for all my lights and my siren. So please try to pull me over when I am in route to a patient that needs CPR I will not stop. Life saving come’s first and I think We need all the lights and sites so I get noticed and people pull over for me to pass. Sometimes people don’t move over for the ambulances so it is all necessary.
Hey #10 you did make this comment correct “I have 2 mobile radios and more lights and sirens than lpd puts in…..”. Did you read your blue light permit, if not here it is:
“No more than two emergency warning lights shall be installed on a vehicle. If one light is used it shall be installed in the center of the roof of the vehicle, or on the front of the vehicle so that the top of the emergency warning light is no higher than the top of the vehicles headlights, or in the center of the dashboard. It may be a low profile light bar of the strobe, halogen, or incandescent type, or a combination thereof. If two lights are used they may be placed on the windshield columns on each side of the vehicle where spotlights are normally mounted, or on either side of the roof at the front of the vehicle directly back of the top of the windshield. Under no circumstances may one light be placed on the roof and one on the windshield column in the spotlight position. Light elements shall be shielded form direct sight or view of the driver.
ALTERNATING FLASHING OR STROBE HEADLIGHTS ARE PROHIBITED AND SHALL NOT BE INCORPORATED INTO THE HOUSING OF ANY LIGHTING.
Exactly how many lights do you have again, it seems like your not following what is allowed. People like you give the rest of the volunteers that do comply with the laws and regulations a bad reputation.
Before you ask, YES, I am an active volunteer and I only have 1 blue light and I have been using 1 blue light for the 20 years of actively volunteering.
TO #36:
“We need all the lights and sirens so I get noticed and people pull over ”
-YA, kinda how a biker says his loud pipes are to be noticed….
cut the garbage- a standard LED dash lights, and maybe grille lights is moooore than enough, you running around in a black chevy suburban outfitted greater than the FBI- is just plain foolish. HOW DO SOME OF THESE PERSONAL CARS HAVE MORE LIGHTS THAN A FIRE TRUCK? OR AN AMBULANCE? OR REAL POLICE CARS!!?? –
“try to pull me over when I am in route to a patient that needs CPR I will not stop”
-So what your saying is, while enroute to a first aid call, you wont stop if an officer is attempting to pull you over?? – Not very smart! That just shows your blatent disregard for law, the officer, and your renegade behavior is the reason we have laws on the books against actions/mentality like your’s- and why blue light fanatic-firemen/emt’s have recived such a scar. Does the term WHACKER mean anything to you?
i personally own a whelen talon (double unit) and it moves traffic very well.
PS- YOUR PERMITS BETTER BE FROM NJ, NOT NY!!!!!!
hey #36…. YOU SAY YOU WONT STOP FOR A POLICE OFFICER TRYING TO PULL YOU OVER WHILE ENROUTE FOR A FIRST AID CALL??????
http://www.state.nj.us/dca/dfs/booklet5.pdf
RE-READ THE MANUAL!!!
“Nothing contained herein is intended to grant to any member of a volunteer fire company or
volunteer first aid or rescue squad any privileges or exemptions denied to the drivers of other
vehicles, and such members displaying emergency warning lights shall drive with due regard for
the safety of all persons and shall obey all the traffic laws of this State” – THAT INCLUDES STOPPING WHEN SIGNALED BY A POLICE OFFICER YOU TOOL!
I am a captain so I therefor have a red light permit and I am able to use as many lights as I please and sirens. When I was a vol. I had 1 forward facing light in the center of my dash and 1 in my grill and people would not yield for me or even see me now days most people see me a yield but there are always people that don’t even when I am driving the Ambulance. Also you must not have a permit as my old blue light permit just said blue light permit with a exp. Date and the mayors signature as well as the state signature how ever if you look up the law what you said is correct.
Hey #40, #10 you can read also. you did make this comment “I am a captain so I therefor have a red light permit and I am able to use as many lights as I please and sirens”. Did you read your red light permit, if not here it is:
MOUNTING OF LIGHTS; USE:
Any siren must be mounted under the hood or in the center of the roof of the vehicle. Any red light used must be a portable light with a magnetic base. The red light may be affixed to the vehicle at such times when the vehicle is being operated in response to an emergency. The red light may only be mounted on the roof of the vehicle. Mounting on the interior front dashboard, fenders or any other location of the vehicle is prohibited. At the conclusion of the emergency, the red light must be removed. Use of the light and/or siren during any such simulated emergencies or training is prohibited.

Exactly how many lights do you have again, it seems like your not following what is allowed.
Its amazing how emotional people get about things…Try driving around in one of the older vehicles that hardly anything works, yet you are expected to respond to an emergency in a moment’s notice… Every one has an opinion, but doesn’t sit in these old police cars trying to protect the same people that are complaining about getting new vehicles. Oh and by the way the supervisors are getting the SUV’s not the patrolmen.
