Township To Propose Municipal Budget With No Increase

The Township this week is expected to propose their 2012 Municipal budget, with a 0% tax levy increase, sources tell TLS. Despite a preliminary $2,000,000 budget shortfall back in January which threatened the jobs of union employees, no layoffs were handed down as of yet and municipal spending is expected to remain flat without sacrificing any services in the process.

The Township was considering laying off police officers and DPW employees to fill about 50% of the preliminary shortfall.

The biggest bulk of the budget, approximately $25,000,000, goes towards Township salaries. The rest of your taxes goes to the County and to the Board of Education.

If kept flat, 2012 would be the third year in a row that the Committee kept a 0% increase in the budget.

The approximately $67 million 2012 budget is expected to be presented at tomorrow’s Township Committee meeting. TLS.

Just goes to show you….. elections matter! The reason the township is suddenly so worried about raising our taxes is because they got the biggest scare of their lives when viable candidates ran against them based on lower taxes.

I give these guys alot of credit for pulling this off. Trying to balance a budget in a time when all costs of living are increasing is a nightmere. These guys in my opinion performed a miracle

And how much did we borrow again this year? Please tell us the truth. We have borrowed over 10 million the last two years. We are drowning in debt. We refied our debt to save us some time. But the bill is coming due.

Can you please show us that we borrowed at least $10 million in the past two years. Is there any way for me to confirm that.

First, the only reason this taking place is because they have finally gotten the message that we will not stand for any more tax hikes.

Second, have they borrowed any money as part of the budget? If yes, they are just kicking the can down the road for us to pay up later

So what is being done to hold crime at a 0% increase. I would pay more taxes to feel safe.

Whats is their plan to hire new and replace retiring officers in the police department??? What about making more promotions for all those men who recently retired??? Seems like a slight increase would be more prudent than keeping putting up goose eggs, that will have a number in front of them one year soon……..

They could easily hire 1 more cop with surplus money saved from what wasn’t used for snow removal this past winter…..

hire cops

Well they were able to hire 5 last year without raising the taxes so they should hire atleast 5 more officers at the lowest number. Id like to see 10.
