Township to Lease ‘Pothole Killer’ for Winter (VIDEO)

pothole killer truckFollowing a successful test run last winter, the Township will again be leasing the ‘pothole killer’ machine, but this time for a much longer period of time, Mayor Akerman tells TLS.

The machine was leased as a test run last year due to the overwhelming amount of potholes which were repeatedly ruined due to the cold weather.

The polthole killer machine can quickly fill the holes with hot patches even during the winter, giving the fillers a lifespan of approximate 44-48 months.

The Mayor says that according to Public Works officials, last year’s patches have had a success rate of over 90%.

The Township this year will lease the machine for the months of January, February and March. If needed, the Township will extend the lease, and/or begin earlier, Mayor Akerman says.

Only roads within the township’s jurisdiction are being treated by the township-leased machine. State and County roads are covered by their respective jurisdictions.

  1. Why are the roads so full of pot holes. If the roads were paved like they should be they would not need such extensive repairs like once in fifteen years. An old time Lakewooder the have not paved most streets for over 25 years. The ones that have been paved within the last ten years have no issues.

  2. Agree with #1. Most of the roads around here are bumpy roads like for ATV’s. You can’t just put patch on top of patch on top of patch . . . At some point you need to actually replace the blacktop. I think we’ve reached that point long ago.

  3. All the people wanting to repave all the streets, where are you going to find the money? You are most likely the same ones yelling to cut taxes. You can’t have it both ways.

  4. If only the township would pave Adams rd. I drive there several times a week and is so full of potholes. Doing the road over one time would save so issues.
