  1. its about time. but they worked all day doing private jobs and will be too tired to do our streets. i actually enjoyed my day with my family today and plan to have a great day tom too.

  2. we are stuck, we waited all day and now they are looking for outside help???what happened to the 21 trucks ready and able and waiting for the storm? I can’t believe this.

  3. what!! They have all these trucks and plows that have been hiding or invisible for the last 2 days!! Why don’t they use the resources they have? Where is John Franklin when you need him? He would have all this under control by now.

  4. Again a sign of incompetent leadership. It took them 24 hours to realize that they need help !
We were lied to when they said that its all under control.
Dont want to point fingers because I dont know who is the one really in charge but there needs to be accountability.

  5. Will they be reimbursing all the developments which couldn’t wait and went out and hired their own snow removal .

Keep in mind that a townhouse development pays more taxes per square foot of pavement then anyone else and of course they come last

  6. Bob Singer is still on the committee and the seniors voted for him. I am sure the senior developments were plowed. That is why nobody has seen the trucks all day.

  7. The township should be embaraased to offer $120 per hour. The rates the private companies charge to plow are $250-$300 per hour. If they can pay a lawyer whatever he asks for they should pay these people that will be working late into the night their going rate.

  8. if the dpw workers were to approach their job with a little forethought they would be much more successful!!! you have o move the snow as well as have an idea of what to do with it after!!!!so many areas of lakewood are plowed, and driveways and cars are blocked in again, making all our work for nought!!!!!! instead of paying $120 dollars an hour, how about hiring an engineer to asses the roads and developments of lakewood, and to make a plan for how and when and in what order to plow each area!!!!!! perhaps waiting till 30 inches has accumulated isnt the best of ideas!!!! perhaps sending a lone plow to tackle an area alone isnt the best use of resources!!!!!! perhaps wasting time by ferrying the mayor around in a plow truck is a really wasteful and stupid idea!!!!!!!!! i have 3 words for the township, council members and dpw!!!!!!!!! PLANNING, PREPARATION and PLOWING!!!!! without any of these 3 you are doomed to failure!!!!!!!!! a good job takes effort, pride in your work, and forethought!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope we never find ourselves in such a disastrous situation again!!!!!!!

  9. The thing that I find most interesting is that I’ve really been so many places in town tonight and I have not seen a plow!!! WHERE ARE THEY? I am just guessing that the real workers are on holiday vacation and they can’t get back…..

  10. we are across from whispering pines, can they do us next, someone hand shovled all the way up the street and made it worst ,all cars going down to school are getting stuck.Appolo road please, also wheelchair person here, need to get out in event of emergency.

  11. Told yot we should privatize.
Now, someone MUST lose their job over this debacle. Tax payers are your bosses and we are expecting a wave of resignations.

  12. The DPW has the most modern facility in the State, all the trucks seem to be new or relatively new, there have been no layoffs. they are well aware of the challenges in plowing narrow street developments, and should have properly prepared.
So what we are left with is total mismanagement, and bad decision making. We all know that this was an unusual big storm
and we all would have tolerated a delayed response, but we deserve more than the total incompetence and excuses that we are getting.
I hope when this saga is behind us, a thorough review and investigation should be launched and the responsible parties should be relived from there duties.
and I would strongly recommend that we sell that entire operation to WM or some other capable well respected company, that don’t demand respect but earn respect.

  13. Fire all those that don’t know how to spell. Better yet, fire all those who don’t know that the red squiggly line under the word they just typed means they spelled it wrong. With intelligence like yours, the rest of us are probably best off if the Township never plows you out. As for me, my street was plowed a number of times.

  14. At $120.00 an hour the township will not attract any professionals, but will get hit with the new untrained guy who slapped plow onto his truck looking for extra cash. These guys can make worse. Fire and public works employee who didn’t show up for work.

  15. I’m willing to bet if they would privatize the job there wouldn’t be a street not plowed yet, bec. If he messes up this time there’s no next.. Anything done by govt.is bad

  16. All streets off of Williams have not been touched! We are now almost 40 hours after the start of the storm. Is this normal? I don’t care how big the storm is/was….that a plow has not been seen at all is mind boggling. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that half od DPW was off in Florida on vacation. They are public employees after all. It’s just one of the perks.

  17. What proof do you have that the workers are striking??? Most of the workers from DPW live out of town cause they were force out to move. All the roads were full of snow so how they are going to make it to work.By law they cant STRIKE.My neighborgh works for Lkwd dpw and theres no way he was gonna make it to work unless he have a snowmobile or be pick up by helicopter. He also told me that he was never called to go to work Sunday nite and today he call out cause he cant make it out of his driveway. So before you start blaming the workers get your facts right and go after the Big Boys.

  18. I f the workers are on strike and did not show they should all be FIRED! how dare they do this to tohe town for their personal gain.
    shut down the bloated dpw.

  19. To #22,
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    to you, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. i remember growing up in ny where guiliani as the storm was coming down had hundreds of garbage trucks plowin away, it never accumulated on the roads no matter how deep it snowed, and believe u me there were times they had over 2 foot of snow…
of course little dinky lkwd is not ny, but its all proportional, and not to have one plow out after 40 hrs after the storm is like living back in radin! typical small town talk, big talk interviews etc and nothing done!

  21. It would be worth it if the private companies have the brains to plow the OUTER PERIMETER of the area first (no more dumping a pile of snow ten feet wide, five feet high and six feet deep in our driveways). Then plow more of snow towards the middle and push it off to the side somewhere. Where would the stuff go so that everyone is safe?. To create a huge mound is courting disaster.

  22. This is incompetence to the highest degree. On Sunday morning Mayor Bloomberg announced that they ANTICIPATE they will need help and asked anyone who can help to call 311. What too Lakewood Township over 48 hours to wake up. I expect some heads will be rolling.
Mayor Langerts statement that we should go out TOMORROW is pathetic! Over half of Lakewood streets have not seen a plow yet!
In Pine river the Township sent a tiny truck with a shovel on it last night to plow, and he only made things worse as he made a huge pile of snow by the entrance.

  23. wait a min where are the National Guards it their job to help out why can’t the Mayor ask Gov Cristen to get the National Guards to shovel or Plow Out the street and wake people up and urge them to move their cars in order to plow the street much better than ever..

  24. OH GREAT! Who came up with this STUPID idea?? I agree John Franklin would have never let this happen! I am sure that extra $120per hour will be added to our tax bills!

  25. If the many thousand residents of Lakewood would all pick up shovels I think we’d have Lakewood cleaned up much faster. Everyone GET TO WORK!

  26. there is no accountability there.the mayor is scared to confront the dept heads since they are there b4 he was elected.yet it is the most over unded dept in the township with nothing to prove. they 28 milion facility justied that they will hae a early warning storm tracking system makes a comedy show look boring.
    Time to outsource.

  27. Once my development lost all power. The residents all got together and
hooked up our childrens’ bikes to a generator and pedaled furiously.
Wallah, our street lights went on and one neighbor even had his electric clock working! So, let’s all shovel out our streets and roads and enjoy!

  28. Imagine, WE spent 28 milion facility with an early warning storm tracking system in order that PW should be prepared. Now If I ran a business I want to know what I can expect in return for such a large expense taking up my resources. If the results are the same or worse than surrounding towns then what is the point?

If Meir Lictenstein told the people he manages “spend a million dollars with a new system as it will save you $2 million in the long term from your snow and garbage removal cost” Then the people didn’t save a dime but actually lost do you think he would have a job managing properties? I hope Meir applies the same tactic to running Lakewood as he uses for his properties. This doesn’t add up!

If this is a result from PW emplyess who are “broiges” at something then heads need to roll!

    FYI: Isaac good luck!

  29. I Have Arranged Six Groups Of 5 Mexicans Each. I Will Be Offering My Services To Township For $120 I’m Confident That My Crews Will “Cover” More Ground In A Quicker Amount Of Time Than The DPW. We Have Hi-Tech Shovels And Strong Boots. If U Would Like To Hire Us For A Private Job, Please Ask One Of Our Crew For Our Phone Number.

  30. Somerset Ave was only done half way like a one way! It’s impossible to drive on it! We need the plows to come and make it into a normal street!!! PLEASE! DON’T FORGET ABOUT US! We’re stuck in our house since Sunday! Remember Somerset Ave and E Kennedy! Thank you! 🙂

  31. Privatize DPW ? Look how well that works for the Board of ED with the buses.

I could see it now, sell the DPW complex and make it a school,
pay to have some one to pick up my garbage, some one to pick up my leaves, someone to plow the snow. That will saves some real Tax $$ -NOT

Count your blessing, I had to travel up state to pick up a family member today. A majority of Lakewood roads are PARADISE compared to other State, County, and local roads around us.

How would you liked to be told all DPW plow equipment is broken and we hope to get to your street before New Years. Your on your own!
That’s what’s happening in some parts Monmouth County and parts further north. Watch some TV news accounts of surrounding towns and how they are being abandoned by their own government until later in the week when the equipment is fixed.

30 inches of snow and it took 3 days to make a pass down all town roads- not great, but not too bad either.
