(TLS photo of Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller during last year’s event) Members of the Lakewood Township Committee are inviting businesses and organizations to support our veterans and those serving in the military by participating in Lakewood’s traditional Memorial Day ceremonies, Monday, May 31, 2010, starting with the “Raising of the American Flag” ceremony at 9:45 a.m. at Lakewood’s Town Square, Clifton Avenue. The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. After the flag is raised to full staff, the Memorial Day Parade will pass the Review Stand on its way down Clifton Avenue to the All War Memorial Amphitheater where the Memorial Day ceremonies will take place at Lake Carasaljo, North Lake Drive.
During the program at the All Wars Memorial Amphitheater, Mayor Steven Langert, Committeemen Raymond Coles and Meir Lichtenstein, Senator Robert W. Singer, Assemblymen Ronald Dancer and Joseph Malone, and Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller, who is a Captain in the Air Force and a chaplain, among other dignitaries, will lay a wreath to remember and honor all soldiers.
Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller says, “The parade is a wonderful opportunity for the entire community to demonstrate their support for our esteemed veterans and for our selfless men and women currently in the service both here and abroad.”
In the event of inclement weather, the Memorial Day ceremony will be held in the auditorium of the Municipal Building, 231 Third Street, Lakewood, N.J.
Organizations and especially veterans who would like to participate in the Memorial Day program should contact Elva Fegan at 732-364-2500 ext. 5283.

Will any “Americans” be there?
It’s OK to take one hour off from class.
And support the veterans.
May God bless this wonderful country & may the troops come home safely.
(Feel free to ditto.)
Yeah all of Lakewood’s Bravest will be there and some of Lakewood’s Finest as well..Oh and did I mention that some of the Lakewood Firefighters, Police and EMS workers in this town are Veterans.
Just like some of the residents of this town..we still care about what happens.
nice to see a positive attitude about this wonderful holiday. In yeshivah, there was no mention of it, and when I asked about it, i was told to be quiet and not ask about “goiyish” holidays.. yeah, that was nice, I got such a positive attitude towards yidishkeit from my yeshivah
Comm82 – what’s wrong with the veterans in PublicWorks? Oh that’s right, are jobs aren’t as glamorous as yours. We are treated like 3 rd class citizens by other Municipal workers and the public. You all can complain about us – snowplowing, trash p/up, phone calls, but were out there in that same weather you all are and expected to do our jobs.
Maybe one of these years Public Works will get invited to participate in the parade instead of doing all the setup, take down and clean up before and after our heros march.
To 5 , at least you got a positive attitude towards yidishkeit.
To 7
It is your job to setup, take down and clean up before and after, if you dont like it QUIT you are not forced to keep that job.
its unfortunate that we dont show more respect for these people who went out there on the front lines and lost thier lives while we sit in our comfortable homes. This is not even veterens day , this is memorial day , remembering those who dies on the battlefield protecting you – yes you.
the only issue is that i dont have the platzis ( nor maybe does anyone else here) to cancel first seder to send everyone to the parade. they should try to work on it to make the parade at 2 pm and make the whole yeshiva go. it would be a great photo op and make a big kiddush hashem
To 9 – you just made my case.
All private schools should close for memorial day. Its a day that people from all back grounds died for the religious rights we have today. All people should come out and just take a moment to remember there sacrifices, without these brave men & women, we may have not won some of the wars we fought.
IN THE NAVY! YOU CAN BE A REAL MAN> IN THE NAVY, WE CAN LEND A HELPIN HAND. IN THE NAVY. WE WANT YOU. WE WANY YOU. WE WANT YOU AS A NEW RECRUIT!
to #7 sorry forgot about them…
to #7 I don’t complain about DPW, I know how hard you work. I will never complain about any township workers like most do …I am one
BMG should march down …!!!
Im a disabled vet who works for the DPW. I’m not here to complain just want to thank everyone who served in the military or are serving. Freedom isn’t free no matter what you think. It’s paid with blood and sacrifice. Although, I bear the scars of my service physically they are nothing to what others who served have or had to deal with. I won’t attend the parade even if they asked me to for the simple fact that nothing I did is worthy of it. Honestly it makes me uncomfortable when people thank me for my service and I don’t know what to say back. It was my choice, I would do it again. Just like it is my choice to work at the township and don’t thank me for that. I just hate when people think we make so much money and we have it so good. Truth be told some of my days of work are just as bad or worse than anything I had to do in the military. In closing just be thankful for what you have cause many gave thier life for the freedom you have.
i dont think having a day off from school proves our appreciation for the veterans. all it does in make people focus on bbq and beach. the kids should stay in school, and the school should have a Memorial day program and TEACH the kids what the day is about.
lets not turn this into an argument. lets just appreciate the fact that we are free to be on the internet and have our religious beliefs of our choice and THANK THE VETS!
