Township Cracking Down On Pitbull Owners

The Township will be cracking down on pitbull owners not properly securing their pitbulls, TLS has learned. In light of recent incidents involving pitbulls, Mayor Miller along with Committeeman Meir Lichtenstien called a meeting with the Police Department and Animal Control, to see to it that the local ordinance is strictly enforced.

At the meeting, it was decided that in addition to the Animal Control, the Police Department would respond to all calls involving unleashed pitbulls or pitbulls bothering or posing a danger to residents. Owners found to be in violation of the law, will face disciplinary actions.

The local ordinance currently dictates that all pitbull owners are required to keep their pitbulls leashed or confined at all times. Owners walking with a loose pitbull on the street, are subject to a fine.

In a recent incident, a child was left scratched up after a pitbull got loose and attacked a group of boys in Coventry Square. The dog was later located and removed by Animal Control.

Last October, a girl in Brookhill Estates was transported to the Hospital and required stitches after she was bitten in the face by a pitbull. TLS.

  1. These laws have been in place thru all of these attacks. It was not much of a deterrent then, nor will it be now. These types of animals who attack humans without provocation need to be taken away from irresponsible owners. No fines. Take it away…before it hurts an innocent child!

  2. My mom has a pit bull who is the biggest lap dog you’ve ever seen. Its all about how you raise them. Any dog can become vicious. Although a lap dog, when people cut through her back yard because their too lazy to walk around the neighbor hood he gives them a good scare>>>

  3. The township cannot just remove dogs because of their breed! Educate yourself before writing this article for one. Secondly, if the dog attacked, the kid would have received more then scratches when he fell. Third of all, teach your kids how to respect animals, including all dog breeds!!!

  4. why does this post only say “TOWNSHIP CRACKING DOWN ON *-PITBULL-* OWNERS”?

why only pitbulls? come on now people! your joking right?

This is truly crazy. what about the boxer that i see in pine acres just running around freely. i could count on my hands and feet how many people have called on this dog and NOTHING has been done. the township takes the boxer away and the owners get in back within a couple of days. and there goes the dog again, running around !

but if it was a pit the dog wouldnt be given back and most likely would be put down right? MOSTLY cause of the -LOCKING JAW- ! well sorry but its a MYTH people, just like the Doberman-brain-swelling-crazy rumor of the 1970s. It is not physiologically possible. the jaw of a pit bull is no different than the jaw of any other dog.

i just wish there was a way that people that have all of this HATE toward pitties could learn how much of a LOVING animal they really are . =/

Educate dont discriminate. but i just some people dont know how to do that!

  5. ok it shouldnt just be pitbulls its all on how they are raised ive had pitbulls for over ten years and they are the most lovig dogs they are just as good if not better than mygolden retrievers stuuf like this happens and no matter what laws are in effect its always going to happen

  6. I agree with most posters here and that the town should enforce the law on all dog breeds. I was bitten by a Doberman when I was young. Its not just the pit-bulls that attack people. Also it’s the way the dog is raised or brought up and trained. I have seen Bull mastiffs who are the biggest lapdog and loving and licking but if some one even looks like there threatening their master the dog attacks its all in the environment.

  7. owners found in violation etc….
i say lock up the owner thta will teach him that his leather weapon will not be tollareted
a loose pit bull is like a gun
what do police do when they see someone with a gun they arrest him so this is no different
    anfd yes i like dogs

  8. For all of my supposed lack of being “educated”, I have not seen any articles posted about other breeds of dogs attacking Lakewoods children.

  9. I must agree with #3,5,& 7 I am also a owner of two American Staffordshire Dogs Aka Pitbulls and they are the friendliest dogs you will ever meet im sure you could rob my home and they would excort you to the car with the goods! People need to really be educated about all dogs not just pitbulls and the law should apply to any breed not just pitbulls!

  10. all dogs should be licensed n regestered not just pits all dogs have teeth and bite….its how you raise n care for your dog i have three kids n two pits one being 4 1/2 years old …loves my kids and fam
