Township Committee On Brookhill Changes: We Did What The Residents Asked Us To Do

brookhill new signsFollowing yesterdays major overhaul in the large Brookhill development, many residents expressed their concern regarding parking and other issues, and some were even upset. However, today TLS obtained a copy of the petition from the Township Committee, which shows approximately 65 signatures from local residents who requested the changes. Along with the copy of the petition, the statement read, “We did what we were asked to do”.

After residents complained to then Mayor Steven Langert about the traffic issue, a meeting was set up with the former Mayor as well as with Police Chief Rob Lawson at which a vote for the changes was held as well.

There had to have been a better way to fix the traffic issue rather then inconveniencing and endangering many brookhill tenants and guests. This was not very well thought out.

all roads in lkwd should have parking only on one side

i live in brookhill and was never approached to sign a petition ,the right way would have been to mail everyhomeowner a petition with options ,now its too late and they have cut parking by 50%

one side only

one more thing. It is my belief that the core problem lies with the developers. How can they build such large developments with out (A) a community parking lot that can be used for when residents have guest over and (B) wider roads simply wide enough for 2 way traffic and at least 1 side parking ? (that was a run on sentence!) All the developments have these issues. My solution now ? 1 way traffic and 1 side parking. The real solution ? regulate how developers can build the roads.

the problem of the buses was only around strategic areas like the shuls there was no reason to make lucerne a no standing zone,,,,how stupid

is there any way we can get another petition started to get those no standing signs removed in most of the development

Question is

Why did the Twp approve such narrow roads in the is large development to begin with???

basically they corrected one problem by causing many others:(

the landlords on the no parking side should expect having a harder time renting out their basements. the parking issue is a major chisaron

65 out of 225. Sounds like a monorirty to me. I was never asked or notified. A shul for 75-100 members built with 5 parking spaces? The people responible are immature and selfish.

ill bet that the 65 signatures are all one car families that don, tneed more parking space!! or maybe two cars but with a driveway big enough to fit both cars. what is one supposed to do for parking?? I sure wouldnt want such neighbors. Im glad I don’t live there

Maybe the township should bring in 24 hour valet parking for all the developments with inadequate parking for the number of residents who live there.

anonymous

The township did not allow the development, the planning board did, and they did it with the information given to them from the developers.

to whomever cares

I have a problem with the fact that the township implemented something that the homeowners of Brookhill concocted which in my opinion makes no sense whatsoever! The township should have put someone in charge to come up with a reasonable way to alleviate traffic without endangering the welfare of the residence. ie make it a one way street with parking on both sides, and “No parking here to corner” signs allowing buses to turn without taking the hood of cars off!

a simple solution to the problem would be to make all streets one way. But of course that would be too inconvenient for the inconsiderate homeowners who care for nothing other then their front lawns.

Brookhil Resident

I dont generally write in to the comment area, however as a brookhill resident i will say the following:

1. The problem with buses and pass-thru due to the double side parking was well known and talked about among residents and the various shuls on many occasions
2. Some of The Brookhill Sfard Shul members actually went out with petitions on more than one time that i remember to bring this petition idea to everyone’s attention – there was even i believe 2 meetings about this.
3. There was also a meeting with the Mayor and Police Chief which many people didn’t bother showing up to (even though everyone complains about the snow and buses)
4. the curves access and the snow plowing was especially bad due to double side parking
5. So with problems well known, some members volunteering their time and being pro-active, having multiple meetings within Brookhill (that most didnt care to show up to WITH mailing and posters in all shuls – i myself happen not to have gone, but i did sign the petition) what do we do when the township finally DOES listen and DOES take action that we NEED

in typical fashion WE COMPLAIN – SHAME ON YOU

When the system doesn’t work we complain
When it does work we complain
Are we really that self centered to not even appreciate when others do something on our behalf? for our benefit?

THANK YOU to those Brookhill residents who were pro-active in working on this for almost 2 years now
THANK YOU Mayor and Police Chief for listening to our needs
THANK YOU everyone in the public works (or whichever department takes care of these tasks) for getting the job done

and finally… THANK YOU everyone for not parking on the wrong side of the street.

why dont we look into those 65 signatures who they are. i was never told about this petition and I live in Brookhill. THis will finish off nasty.

Seems like a move in the right direction, however it should be changed so that from late friday thru Saturday night people can park on both sides. This will take care of the shobbos guest issue.

the 65 signatures is fake, phoney, fraud.

accuracy counts

First of all let’s get a few facts streight.
1.) There are no 225 home owners in brookhill. There are maybe half that amount.
2.)the ones making the noise are basement tennants who have not made a long term committiment to living in brook hill.
3.) The issue is NOT JUST SCHOOL BUSSES. Rather it was the lack of acess for snow plows, emergency vehicles and even some residents due to the over saturation of parking at the 2 sfard shuls in the development. At all times emergency vehicles MUST be able to get through.
4.) we spoke to a hatzola member who lives in Brookhill and when asked if he thought an ambulence could get through all the time with parking the way it was his answer was NO.
5.) the whining and complaining chevra (mostly basement tennants) need to either learn how to walk a little or find another place to live. I as a resident will not accept a situation where an ambulance or fire truck can’t get through because someone is too lazy to walk a block to shul. I live here, participated in a fair vote (for a change) and we made a meaningful change that has increased the quality of life here and that’s the bottom line.

P.S. As far as tennat’s rights go, let me be clear:
You are renting here. Your rights are whatever you negotiated with your landlord. You don’t own the property so you don’t have a say in how the neighborhood association does business. What evere people do with their basements is not my business, when they endanger my family by blocking acess for emergency vehicles then it is my business. If you have an issue than Demand your landlord provide you with parking. Our streets are for driving not parking.
This is not NY. If I wanted to live in NY I would have moved there. I as a homeowner ALSO have rights. In my opinion, and that of many others, this was the ONLY way to fix the issue.

TLS. If you are going to let someone comment bashing basement tenants, then at least let a comment defending them! To accuracy counts, why are you so mad? Did your basement tenant stop paying rent? Please understand, Lakewood was built around the yeshiva, weather you like it or not. Every development has basement tenants, and will continue to do so! Im not sure where you live but if you live in a development then you probably have a basement tenant! Therefore as a landlord renting out your basement you must consider the needs of a basement tenant. You need their rent, you knew what you were getting yourself into!

The real truth!

I just drove thru the whole Brookhill Development at 11:40 pm. I would assume that most residents are parked for the night. INTERESTING!!! I DID NOT SEE A PARKING SHORTAGE ISSUE AT ALL. Throughout the development on the one side that parking is allowed there are at least another 30-50 spaces available. Get a life.

Anonymous

I’m not sure why the township needs the owners permission. If it is not safe the townships obligation is to fix the problem To speak to the residents is only a courtesy of the committee. We have the best committee !!! Right now.

I have a permanent solution to this problem. How about the BUILDER come back and redo the streets. He could cut 5 ft from each side of the road to make them wider. As a side note when they take your property to build the road you can have your taxes lowered because you now have less property, wow win win.

1) this did NOT happen with the consent of the majority of the people.

2) there should have been some advanced notice

I agree with 34, and so do Most of Brookhill resident. We now need Speed limit signs, and some cops to enforce it, especially when the children are on way to and from their bus stops.

1. A road is made for traveling/driving. You may Park on your property/driveway/garage.
2. You had the chance to attend neighborhood meeting, township committee meetings, and more, you missed your chance to raise your opinion, don’t cry now.
3. No Standing is great, as the “Lamdunim” of Lakewood, will interpret park and claim they were only standing.
4. The local government kicked in since you can’t control yourself by parking on one side when snow removal is needed, or by parking like a “Mench”.
5. Tenants have NO say in the matter.
6. If you don’t like it, move elsewhere, we won’t cry over you.
7. Good Job Township committee, your job is to do what’s right, rather then what people want.

Driving through

I am truly sorry for those that feel that there are not enough parking spots for them on the side of the road now, or for those that cannot walk a length of a few houses or cross the street. However, I have to tell you that driving through Engleberg and Arosa was a true mechaya today. Usually it is like a dangerous obstacle course — with two cars often barely able to maneuver when going in different directions, people picking up/dropping off kids, etc. Today, however, was a stress-free driving experience — much safer, too!

To 31 and others,
Builder won’t come back to redo anything. Builder got what he wanted when he built, more homes built and nothing else matters. Builders and developers always win in Lakewood.

mini signs

As a BH resident who appreciates everyone’s hard work (though I may never get mail delivered or garbage picked up again…) I’d suggest adding mini signs under the present ones that say 7 am – 7 pm Mon-Fri because nights are an issue in some parts of the development! Also, driving through the development is easier now, allowing motorists to speed up as if they’re on the GSP! Can we petition for speed bumps now????????

5. Tenants have NO say in the matter????? ARE ALL THE SIGNATURES HOME OWNERS?

Anonymous

Huh? Tenants have no say?Why not? What makes them less of residents of Brookhill then anyone else? When you Mr. Homeowner moved into Brookhill didn’t you know that there would be tenants renting there?Does the homeowner association own and pay for maintenance of the streets? If YOU wanted something done you wouldn’t accept a tenants signature on your behalf?

I’m not commenting on this issue itself but I am shocked at the attitude displayed here.

And if you feel that I as an outsider should keep out then don’t air your opinions here either.

Thankfull I don’t live in Brookhill.

think again

As someone also living in a “devolopment” late me state that there are many GOOD reasons for having parking on only one side.
Number 1 is SAFETY! When a child (or adult) crosses between cars it’s very dangerous. If there are cars only on one side this would be a tremendous help in avoiding tragedy r”l.
2) Buses and cars cannot maneuver when there are cars parking on both sides. Especially when people park like in NY where they are incapable of parellel parking or think nothing of parking 2 ft. from the curb!!!
3) Suspending the rules for Friday aft – Motzoei Shabbos would be good but confusing. (though maybe the township should not ticket during those times 🙂

What if there were a fire when school buses are dropping off or picking up?
When safety enters into it, such decisions are better made by impartial officials, or city planning engineer.
