Township Committee Gives First Approval To Multiple Infrastructure Projects

The Lakewood Township Committee gave their initial approval to an $18 million bond package for multiple capital improvement projects around town, at their recent meeting.

In addition to the planned indoor sports dome, the committee also approved the first reading of a bond issuance for many other infrastructure projects, including road improvements, new traffic lights, sewers and sidewalks.

Some of the various roadways in the Township slated to receive some upgrades include, but are not limited to, Frances Street, Arboretum Parkway, Drake Road, Ridgeway Place, August Drive and Brookfield Drive, with a total appropriation and estimated cost of $5,384,000.

In addition, the township will appropriate $4,355,000 for traffic signal improvements at various locations in the Township, including but not limited to, Park Avenue and East 7th Street, Vermont Avenue and Route 70 and 4th Street and Monmouth Avenue.

Also, the township plans on addressing the Forest Drive and Gladiola Court dam groundwater seepage issues, with a total appropriation and estimated cost of $229,000 for that project.

Speaking to TLS, Mayor Ray Coles said that township officials will be meeting with county officials regarding some new traffic signals around town.

Other long-awaited traffic signals, such as at the intersection of Route 9 and Oak Street and Route 9 and Broadway, are expected to be installed this Spring.
