  1. Lincoln’s birthday is NOT a federal holiday. In fact, Lincoln’s birthday and Washington’s birthday were consolidated into ONE holiday – President’s Day. Why is this cash-strapped township still celebrating a holiday that was phased out years ago? For that matter, why are they closed on Election Day? I don’t know how much each holiday costs the township, but I imagine that it is not insignificant. How’s about we remove them from the calendar and save the taxpayers some money, instead of cutting back on other services?
There is also the added inconvenience of zone 3 not having bulk pickup for two months in a row (MLK day last month and Lincoln’s birthday this month).

  2. It was combined years ago in some places not all. You can call the state for that and ask them. I bet most liked having that day off from school years ago! Missing 2 bulk pick ups in Zone 3 is not a tragedy in life. You can bring your items to them or wait for the convienence of picking it up. The reality here is that lkwd still has bulk pick up …other towns do not give you that courtesy. Life is short…Garbage is forever….

  3. When is your birthday? My son became president. I did not realize it interfered with garbage being picked up and having a day off. what did we all do before this?

  4. The township celebrates election day; no garbage pick up and township offices are closed. This past year it created a problem since election day and Veterans Day occurred in the same week and there is only one “overflow” day per week. The mail is not delivered only if it is a federal holiday, so there will be mail delivery on Monday since Lincoln’s Birthday is not a federal holiday. There will not be any mail delivery the following Monday, Feb 20 in honor of President’s Day.

  5. A township, city, or state may choose to celebrate legal holidays even if it’s not considered a country-wide holiday. It’s been this way in Lakewood for many years, before the town became overpopulated. I don’t remember people complaining about it back then. They had better things to do than to cry over every little thing. I think you can manage without mail, and trash pick up for ONE DAY. Most of you came to live here AFTER the township decided to celebrate these holidays. If you don’t like it, you should have thought about that before moving here. You must abide by the laws of the land. Don’t like it? Move to another country that suit your every needs.

  6. #14, take it easy! It is not a question of managing for one day without garbage pickup or mail for one day. I’m saying that if the township is looking to cut costs and save money, this is one place to start. If people didn’t complain about it years ago, it was because they didn’t have a forum on which to complain, like they do now.
