lfd frank workA general alarm fire did severe damage to the interior of a towel business on Chestnut Street early Thursday morning. No injuries were reported in the fire that erupted shortly before 3 a.m., according to Wayne Truex, fire chief of the Lakewood Fire Department. Firefighters were forced to come in through the roof to douse the blaze at the Towel Guys LLC. “I’m not sure if its uninhabitable, but the business is not going to be open for a while,” said Truex. 1. The absolute truth is the Lakewood FD is by far the most all business courageous and bravest team players in Ocean and Monmouth counties. They are extraordinary in their profession with a record of saving lives and property with minimal loss time and time again. A true asset to our community and Lakewood, throughout. Thank you brave men for your dedication and selfless courage to providing to providing protection to the citizens of Lakewood at a moments notice.
I witnessed their performance the early morning as those brave men went inside that burning laundry company and put out that hugh fire and deadly smoke and did not let the fire burn down all the ajoining businesses.
Kudos to you all once more.

Steve when are you going to award a medal of honor to your fire department?? I attend most of your ceremonies and never once have I seen the Chief of the fire department or any firemen acknowledged. Sad!

  2. I second that! Lakewood Fire Department has the bravest Firefighers that I have ever seen. It is time that all of these guys and girls get commended for the work that they do. They put up with alot within the town… Keep up the good work!!!

  3. There was no mention in the news that the Township Committee cut $50,000 from the fire budget, which was defeated by one vote.

That would have been the greatest acknowledgment of their brave actions, to have kept their budget intact. But, no, everyone needs to share the pain, was their motto.

How about the township committee cutting back their salaries and health benefits? Any takers???? Will they be willing to “share the pain”?
