Lag Ba’omer! Today is a day that is celebrated throughout Klal Yisroel as a true yom simcha. Being a day of double simcha, one, the talmidim of Rebbe Akiva who were niftar stopped dying on this day. In addition it is the hilulla (yahrtziet) of Reb Shimon Bar Yochai.
Nowhere more is the simcha felt than in Miron at the tzion of Rash’’bi. For generations this day was known as a big eis ratzon and Miron is a makom teffillah for all Yidden. The obvious is, why Reb Shimon? from all our tzadikim, is his hillula celebrate as a Yom Tov.
Let us analyze what impact this Yom Tov has upon us, and what message it can teach us how to be mechanech our children.
The gemara in meseches Shabbos relates (138b) the Tanaim were once in Kerem b’yavne (the yeshiva in Yavne at that time) and discussed the future of Klal Yisroel and they proclaimed “There will be a time when torah will be forgotten from Yisroel” (probably referring to our generation) with all the distractions of galus there is no way how torah learning can be sustained and studied. At that point Reb Shimon Bar Yochai stood up with determination “Chas v’shalom”, it is impossible that Torah will ever be forgotten. As it says in the passuk “ki lo sishuchach mipee zaroi” true, there will be distractions and Torah will not be understood crystal clear as previous generations, but nevertheless, we will always be learning Torah.
It is with this determination that Reb Shimon Bar Yochai shone his light for all generations of Klal Yisroel. A Yid no matter how tough galus is upon him, no matter his situation, his abilities or his capabilities always has the Torah hakdosha to guide him for every Yid had his chelek in Torah! For some it might come hard, others are easily distracted, but there still is a place for them to learn Torah.
In our dor of ikvasa d’mshicha, as Reb Shimon predicted “ki lo sishuchach mipee zaroi” the Torah is alive and here for us to delve into and learn it. We must realize his message that everyone must learn Torah and the Torah was given to all. Each talmid regardless of his learning abilities must be allowed to learn Torah in a yeshiva setting. Every bochur, regardless of his emotional or spiritual distractions must be given a chance tobe in Yeshiva and learn Torah. For the light of Torah is always bright and strong. This is the message of Lag B’omer and this is all the koach of the hashpaha of Reb Shimon Bar Yochai!
When can I shave?
Beautiful!!!!!!! In mesivta of eatontown, every bochur is given a chance, a chance of a lifetime where every rebbi gives up his time and is mesiros nefesh just so each and every bochur is given that chance. Reb Sender keep it up
