Lawmakers will try to restore property tax rebates to the levels in Gov. Jon Corzine’s original budget proposal for homeowners making up to $75,000 a year, top Democrats said today as the state continued adding to the unexpected tax amnesty windfall that is allowing Corzine to revive the popular rebates in his re-election year. Senate Budget and Appropriations Chairwoman Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex) and Senate Majority Leader Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester) said details remain to be worked out, such as whether tenants will receive rebates, and whether homeowners making up to $200,000 or $250,000 a year will also be allowed to claim a property tax deduction on their state income taxes.
