A Lifeline of Hope: Mrs. Goldfarb* speaks:

From the time she was a toddler, our Rivky* was always a difficult child. When she was diagnosed with ADHD, we almost felt relieved: at least there was a reason for her erratic behavior and frequent outbursts. But our relief was short-lived, as no Morah in town seemed to be able to manage our daughter. By the time she was thirteen, we knew it was time for a change. We uprooted ourselves and relocated to Lakewood, hoping to find a larger array of educational options for our daughter. However, after a chaotic first month in her new school, we were informed that Rivky could not return. Her suspension from school threw us into a deep despair. We had picked up our family and moved just for this child, and now it seemed as if it was all for naught. A heavy cloud of misery settled over our once happy and vibrant home. We were bombarded on all sides with conflicting advice and opinions from friends and family. It looked like we had reached a dead end with our beloved, yet troubled daughter.

It was then that through the tremendous kindness of Hashem, we were directed to Nesivos. From the moment we entered their doors, our lives were completely, irrevocably altered. Finally, there was a listening ear for our anguish and pain. Finally, we felt like someone cared. Two skilled, sensitive therapists met with us for nearly two hours. They didn’t just listen, they sprung into action on Rivky’s behalf. First, they located for Rivky a sorely needed therapist who accepted our insurance. They also arranged an incredible mentor for her through their mentorship program. They helped us find a school to fit Rivky’s needs, and smoothed our entry into the school which we finalized on. But it didn’t stop there. Things were rocky at first, just like they’d been in previous schools. But Nesivos was there to help us overcome each hurdle, working with us to ensure that the teachers, therapists, and parents were all on the same page.

Baruch Hashem, it is almost a year later, and Rivky is thriving in ways we never imagined. Just as importantly, our home is a happy, calmer place and the rest of our children feel nurtured and safe. I still speak to the Nesivos counselors often. When crises come up- and they do, often! – they are the first people I call. Their guidance and support are literally a lifeline for our entire family.
