Three residents of Toms River have joined the frantic search for a rebbi who went missing yesterday in the waves off Virginia Beach.
Rabbi Reuven Tzvi ben Esther Baila Bauman heroically jumped into the frothy ocean waves when a 13-year old student in the water began struggling. The rebbi managed to assist the boy in getting safely back to shore, but he went missing in the churning waters and has not been seen since. The boy he saved was brought to a local hospital in stable condition.
Rabbi Bauman, a rebbi at Yeshiva Toras Chaim of Norfolk, Virginia had been visiting False Cape State Park on Tuesday afternoon with about 20 students when the incident occurred.
Authorities from the Coast Guard searched for the rebbi until late Tuesday evening, and resumed their search Wednesday morning. The Coast Guard suspended their search Wednesday afternoon, considering the case a lost cause.
Unfazed by predictions of the worst, the three Toms River residents who have joined the search using jet skis are keeping their hopes up of miraculously finding the rebbi alive. Multiple organizations and dozens of askonim are continuing the search for Rabbi Bauman.

It is brought down in sefer Taamei Haminhagim page Tof Kuf Samech Tes. A Segula to find someone missing in water, to put into the water a plate made entirely of wood, and it will float until the place of the missing person. He adds a story that it was tried and it worked. Ayin Sham
All the best
