Toms River Police shoot driver who pointed gun at officers [UPDATED – PHOTO]

toms river police tlsA man in Toms River was shot after pulling a gun on police officers late last night, police say.

At 11:32 pm last night, officers on patrol approached a suspicious vehicle near the corner of Cedar Drive and Haines Drive, and contact was made with a 29 year old Toms River man later identified as Timothy Sauers.

“During the interaction, the man suddenly exited his vehicle and pulled a gun on the officers. This encounter resulted in the man receiving at least one gunshot wound prior to him fleeing into the Toms River by jumping over a cement bulkhead at the dead end of the street,” police said.

Timothy SauersA search was conducted with the assistance of the NJ State Police Aviation Unit as well as The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.

The suspect was located an hour later by Tactical Response Officers and medical assistance was immediately administered. He was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment by the Toms River EMS Service. No officers were injured in the incident.

  1. Nothing but respect for police officers who put their lives on the line every day trying to uphold the laws that too many people don’t think apply to them. Stay safe.

  2. The hoodlum pulled a gun on a cop for crying out loud, they should have emptied a whole clip into him. Instead they took one shot because they are afraid of riots from other similar hoodlums. Due to this, they took one shot, and he almost got away. How would you feel if they found him hiding in your backyard, or they didn’t find him at all, or worse? (Moderated)

    But really, what does a person like this think he’ll accomplish by pulling out a gun on law enforcement?
