A Toms River man was arrested for luring a girl to his car, the prosecutor’s office announced.

Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced the arrest of Ralph Maffie, Age 76, of Toms River, this morning on charges of Luring or Enticing a Child by Various Means.

A fourteen year-old girl reported to South Toms River Police that Thursday, October 25, 2018, Maffie approached her in his vehicle while she was walking in the Wawa parking lot. She indicated that he opened his car window and asked her if she needed a ride. After receiving “no” for an answer, he followed her in his car, stopped next to her, opened his car door and asked if she wanted money to which she answered, “no.” The girl reported he drove away, made a U-turn and returned in her direction. She reported that she was frightened and then ran away from the vehicle.

Ocean County Detective Alex Dasti and South Toms River Detective Timothy Meier conducted the investigation with assistance from OCPO High Tech Unit and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department. Ralph Maffie was issued a Complaint-Warrant and detained in the Ocean County Jail consistent with Bail Reform.

  1. When I was parked in cvs parking lot a man that looks very similar to the picture kept staring into my car and then walked around to the window of my car and motioned for me to open my window I was very frightened and drove off quickly…

  2. @Anon: did you call the police to report it ? Take down his license plate number? It just drove away, letting him continue his evil way. B”H he was caught before it ever in a tragedy. Call and report suspicious activity, the life you save might be your own….
