By: L. Halevi. The Lakewood Scoop and Tomchei Shabbos are two institutions that are well recognized in Lakewood and beyond, and both offer a tremendous service to the residents of Lakewood.

Pesach is an enormously difficult time for many families who struggle financially to meet all the Yom Tov obligations. Tomchei Shabbos’ Kimcha D’Pischa distribution works overtime to raise the impossible Pesach budget of over $1.1 Million to ensure Simchas Yom Tov for every resident of the communities of Lakewood and its surrounding areas. One of the key ways in which the obligations are met are via the “Sponsor-A-Seder” initiative, where members of the Kehila and go the extra mile and sponsor the Sedarim of other families, of lesser means, in conjunction with the preparation of their own Sedarim.

Sponsoring a Seder for those in need, not only assists the recipients, but also magnifies the Simchas Yom Tov of the donor, as entering Yom Tov knowing you helped others is the most remarkable feeling in the world.

The Lakewood Scoop launched a special “ Sponsor-A-Seder” campaign a few years ago, and has been doing it ever since, each year before Pesach, and hundreds of Sedarim have been sponsored  over the past few years.

“It was a simple gesture of altruistic generosity on the part of The Lakewood Scoop” says Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchok Trainer, Director of Tomchei Shabbos, “but it has made a tremendous impact, facilitating countless Sedarim and other donations, that has significantly helped Tomchei Shabbos meet its Pesach budget”

The founders, Askanim and volunteers of Tomchei Shabbos are all extremely appreciative of the contributions of The Lakewood Scoop to the betterment of the community at large in many different ways.
