TODAY: Matnas Chaim swab testing around Lakewood to save Yungerman’s life

Internationally renowned bone marrow registry Matnas Chaim has been storming the streets of Lakewood, NJ, in efforts of finding a life-saving donor match.

Chaim, a newly married husband and father of a 7-month-old baby girl.Chaim has been diagnosed with a rare disease, and he needs an immediate bone marrow transplant from a perfectly matched donor.

Being of Ashkenazi descent, Chaim’s match must be within the same ancestral pool, i.e. a donor from Ashkenazi descent with similar genealogy. The global secular marrow registries are completely useless in such cases. Matnas Chaim has been the miraculous envoy for nearly 3,200 Jewish patients over the past 20 years.

Matnas Chaim, in partnership with Misaskim, Chai Lifeline and Bikur Cholim of Lakewood, has undertaken the initiative to activate all of Lakewood and unearth the one perfect match.

The date is set for Today, September 7, 2017. Thousands of Lakewood’s own will gather for a mass drive at the following locations:

– Bais Medrash Govoha (All day)

– Kol Shimshon

– Chestnut Shul

– Satmar Shul

– Rachmistrivka

– West Gate Shul

(All above Shuls around Davening times.)

If you are an adult between the ages of 18 and 45, you belong at the drive. Testing for a bone marrow match takes just 3 minutes and involves nothing more than a simple swab of your cheek with a cotton swab.No blood is drawn, and you can go on with your day right away.

If you do turn out to be a match, you will be given the choice to donate your marrow in a painless procedure—and literally help save Chaim’s life and his family’s future.

Chaim is counting on you. Matnas Chaim is counting on you. The global Jewish community is counting on you. Because even if you don’t turn out to be Chaim’s match, you may get the opportunity to save another life somewhere else some other time.

If you already had given a swab years ago, do you need to go again, or have they already checked that you are not a match?

I’m Chaim’s uncle. Yes. All secular world registries have been searched through Matnas Chaim (The Gift of Life Foundation). Unfortunately there have been no matched there either.

Just wanted to make sure that Chaim has checked the secular list as well… I know of a number of Ashkenazi Jews including myself on registry.

I took the test through gift of life around 10 years ago. Should I go again? Are they affiliated?
Please update the post with the answer as I’m sure multiple people have this question.

If you were already swabbed AND YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION HAD NOT CHANGED, then there’s not need to swab again. If your contact information has changed since you swabbed, please call The Gift of Life at (800) 9MARROW or (800) 962-7769.

You can also check if you’re registered in the registry by logging on tocomment imagetoflife.org/page/content/am-i-registered and entering your date of birth and last name.

It’s all part of one registry (same registry as the Gift of Life).
