Today Is The Last Day To Redeem Farmers’ Market WIC Checks

Today, November 30, is the last day that the Farmers’ Market WIC checks are still redeemable for this year, the Lakewood WIC office confirms to TLS.

The WIC & Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Programs (FMNP) provide locally grown unprepared fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs to nutritionally at-risk pregnant, breast-feeding, or post-partum women, children 2-5 years old as well as eligible seniors 60 years of age and older.

The amount of $5-$10 checks issued to each family, is based on the amount of those eligible in the household.

However, if the checks are not used by the November 30 expiration date, the household will receive less checks during the next cycle, being that the system recognizes the the non-usage, the office told TLS.

  1. People take WIC, food stamps and HUD. A rite of passage is to collect money for your child to get married. And so many spit into the well that they drink from.

Shame on all of you, those who declare the demise this great nation. There are plenty of people like myself, honorable and decent citizens who never took a dime from the government but vote to help those less fortunate. The nation is as great today as it has ever been. Perhaps many are personally surrounded by abusers and takers (or they are abusers and takers) and think otherwise, but your town and your experience is not America.

Such stupidity. All this nonsense about the electorate changing. Just four years ago we had “conservative” President. Study some history and you will see how America bounces back and forth.

  2. Lone Ranger, you never took a dime from the government? That’s great. Do you also intend to turn down social security and/or Medicare benefits?

  3. Social Security and Medicare are for the rich and poor alike. We put in our years of work. No one who has not worked can take from either. Although social security is structured as a pay-as-you-go system (hence it cannot technically go bankrupt), its reasoning is social insurance for which every worker who collects already had put in the premiums (40 quarters). But, nonetheless, AnonNJ, I guess welfare can also be considered also social insurance, just such that not everyone contributes.

FDR referred to Social Security as the most important legislation of his administration. It is clear that we no longer have depressions since the New Deal. Before social security, when workers lost their jobs, the baker, banker and candlestick maker lose theirs. The economy spiraled to collapse. Simple macro-economic theory.

But government is not about efficiency, it is about fairness. What kind of nation do we want? We do not want a nation in which old people, the poor and widow have to beg on the streets. This is not the America that most of us were brought up to.

The point is that we’ve been there, done it, and will do it again. There is nothing new about Obama for so many to be alarmed.

  4. these programs are nice to help you out but to many people abuse these programs. if you don’t need the assistances anymore then you should get off them. to many people think that they are owed something so they go onto every program. people also don’t realize that if you pay taxes you are paying for these programs too even though your on it.
there are also many grocery stores
    that abuse wic.

  5. Hey AnonNJ: Just for the record that is money the Government TOOK from us with a promise to hold it and give it back to us with interest!! The same goes for Medicare. But the Democrats saw all this money sitting around doing nothing and decided to give the money away to those that have never put into the plan. Now the plans have no money for the people that put the money in… they are going bankrupt!!!!!
If I were asked when I started to work if I wanted to join the plan I would have said NO and taken the money that the Government TOOK from me and invested and when I needed the I would have had it.
In short if you don’t pay into the plans you should not be allowed to take out from them. The Democrats have to stop picking MY pocket to make themselves look good giving away some one else’s money.

  6. Quote”Do you also intend to turn down social security
YOU PAY INTO THIS ,I worked 40 years and paid into it for 40 YEARS!!! also no one can live on social security alone, the problem with social security is just like every other govenment program its been misused . Food stamps another issue altogther now at 47 million collecting for those who really need help It serves a need but way to many who are just abusing the sysytem

  7. Everyone who takes federal funds should not complain who is in the white house or the President. Most Americans paid into both Social Security and Medicare benefits while working. We should be able to enjoy these benefits.

  8. Actually President Clinton left Social Security with an excess. Like and adolescent who needed new sneakers, candy and electronics, Bush opened that locked box and spread it around to Halliburton, the banking industry, oil industry and to the drug companies. Clinton warned him not to touch that locked box and he spent all the excess in less than 6 months..
dont blame Obama… Blame the one who spent it like a sailor
