wont do any good. Just a way to make more money……….Can the TWp let us know how many people died in Lakewood bec of someone running a light in the past 10 years ?
If you say 30, then i understand. But if you say 0, then the twp is just here to make money…
with cameras at intersections if you blow the light you will be cited. then you can`t say that you are being targeted by the police. it takes the human factor out of ticketing, a great revenue raiser. then our tax rate will go down and everybody will be happy. next what they need to do is put up cell phone cams to catch the rest of the town, man, we`ll be rolling in dough and paying no taxes, and we will all be getting yearly dividends from the proceeds.
95 percent of people talk on cell phones when they drive
Traffic light cams are a bennefit to all. Part of it is behaviour modification, because motorist know that a camera is non discriminating. If you run the light, you get a ticket. It also adds to revenue, but mostly important is that when motorist know that their driving is being observed and tend to observe the rules. This provides the incentive to drive safely.
Really surprised to see so many people saying “No”. What harm could it do besides catch someone breaking the law? Red lights mean stop. If you don’t stop you should get a ticket. End of story.
If they could somehow catch people on their cellphones that would be even better. Do you guys see how many accidents we’ve had in this town lately??? Something needs to be done.
I wish we could put cameras at stop signs too.
Dumb and really pointless because its just a backhanded way to raise taxes. It wont save lives because I would bet my house that there was not more then 10 accidents in the last five years as a result of someone trying to make a yellow light. Crashes happen when people dont pay enough attention and are careless period…….
Just stop with the taxes, fines and any other excuse to take our money. Hands Off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Surprise don’t be surprised everyone that is saying “No” are the ones that run the red lights everyday because they are in a rush to get nowhere, talking or texting with their cell phones, eating, etc..!!
But we all know they will be the first ones to say “Why didn’t the Township, County or the State do anything to fix the problem of people running red lights” when something happens to one of their own family members or close friends.
Look at the statistics, Red light cameras cause accident rates to rise. People are nervous to go through the intersection, there is indecision which causes accidents.
The rate of rear end accidents will go up.
How about just installing more TRAFFIC LIGHTS around town?
Pine & MLK Dr needs one as well as many other intersections.
Please realize that most of the revenue goes to the State & not the township!
Yes if this way we can cut down on the police dept budget.
Wow! So many are against this? You could put a camera on me 24-7. Do you know why? I don’t break traffic rules for the safety of OTHERS, and never received a ticket: don’t talk on my cell or text while driving; stop at stop signs, red lights, crosswalks, etc.. Makes you think…
I’m going into town. How about letting me borrow your car? If I run a red light and the camera catches the license plate guess who gets the ticket. Nope – not me. I don’t own the car. The ticket goes to the owner, no matter who was driving the car. And you can’t go to court and say someone else was using your car.
These cameras bring the last thing anyone wants from a driver should I shouldn’t I what should I do ??? INDECISIVE drivers are the last ones you want driving.
I said no because I travel around Brick a lot where they have those cameras. Many times I see them going off when no one has blown through a light and wonder who the poor soul is who will be getting a ticket.
Bottom line is the people that don’t want it are the ones that NEED to get caught so I hope they put them up. And more camares shuld get installed not just thoes places.
The reason why I voted NO is because, if you are waiting to turn left you will get a ticket when you turn after the light changed to RED even if your in the intersection before the light changes. Thats not fair.
Who cares if its a way to make money. If you break the law and go through a red light, you should get a ticket. The town makes money in the process, its money that might not be there otherwise and could possibly have to come out of your pocket. They should have them at every traffic light. In case people are not aware, you will only get a ticket if your whole car is behind the white line when the light turns red. You are not going to get a ticket if you are coming up on a yellow and go through that. If the light is red and your whole car is behind the white line and you go through that, you deserve a ticket
stop tailgate and you wont hit the 1 in front of you, put them in!!!!
One person dying from someone running a red light is one too many if that person is your loved one. And this from someone who has been there. Don’t be so flippant with other people’s lives.
even in your bathroom or bedroom? Wow, you really need the government telling you how to live? This is the United States of America, not the USSR.
To #23. Never said anything about my bedroom or bathroom. Don’t know what you’re thinking. If you read my post – I said TRAFFIC (24-7). And I also said “for the safety of others (that covers you, me, and our loved ones – all of us).” If you don’t get that, I’m sorry for you. My point was that I don’t have anything to hide. Do you? Lakewood’s a mess. Just follow the law. Not so hard to do. It may keep all of us a little safer. Just saying…
To all those that voted yes, I would love to see your response once you receive a unjust ticket that can not be argued conventionally in court.
.
Additionally I don’t believe anyone is of the opinion that Lakewoods traffic situation and driving habits don’t need improvement, however the means to improve it are whats being argued, and for that I can’t see how anyone who gives the idea a closer look and actually places some thought into it, which includes looking at the statistics that are out there, being in favor of this system, the safety aspect is minimal at best and the violation of the basic rights of the citizens of the great USA are most definitely being trampled on.
Bottom line this is a big government form of revenue and not a safety issue
if theres noone by the intersection why shouldnt i. im not endangering anyone
in this town they should start in there driveways, this way they have a heads up on the roads before they leave.
To #25. EXACTLY. What is there to argue if they have a photo of your car – over the white line after the light turns red? There’s truth in photos. Sorry you won’t be able to throw together a quick fable to try and get out of paying the fine for breaking the law.

MLK & Pine definitely needs a light with all the new housing.
I think the twp has bigger problems then red light blowers I’m talking
Tent city remember
The whole thing is a scam I live in ny where they have them all over the place and the yellow lights are much shorter I can’t tell you how many times I have to short stop and pray noone is behind me I firmly believe these cameras while bringing in revenue cause more accidents
That’s right “squankum says:” lets hurry and clean out tent city … look at all the condo’s that we can build……all the traffic we can create …. all the property taxes we can collect …. not so much the last one.
I say put them in, Lakewood is one big accident anyway…..
Im a lakewood girl and a very cautious driver. In bkln I have to pray that the guy behind me doesn’t slammmm into me when I have to many times shortstop at a light on oceanparkway to avoid getting an insane ticket…!it puts me on edge and I feel my driving is affected and I’m more uneasy and indecisive at intersections.I don’t want lakewoods intersections to turn more dangerous!save us!we have enough accidents related to stopsigns, dark roads(I almost died in december 2005 from a driver without lights on a dark road who was invisible oh of course I got 60percent guilt because I had the stopsign…never mind that I sat at the stopsign for like5straight min before gg and CRASH well Baruch Hashem mr. No lights was a tzaddik-he realized he was seriously at fault and didn’t file a claim against our insurance so our premiums didn’t go up…oh yes and we bh all lived to tell the tale.nissim.1st nite chanukah.) so to make a long story longgger we wonderful lkwd people with a sick track record in accidents donnnt need another fabulous way to kill more ppl, smash more vehicles, and give hatzlolah more calls!!!! How bout more street lights? More traffic lights?
