TLS Exclusive: Video Message From Deputy Mayor Steven Langert

hershel and langertEXCLUSIVE VIDEO (taken moments ago) of Deputy Mayor Steven Langert thanking the Public Works Department for their cleanup efforts around town after the massive storm. In the video, Deputy Mayor Langert also apologized to the residents of Carmel Street in the Raintree area, whose street has been overlooked. If there are any streets which have still not been plowed as of this posting, please contact the Township or post it on TLS and we will bring it to attention of the proper party. Mr. Langert concluded his message by requesting that no residents park on the roads so as not to further complicate the cleanup efforts.

  1. THE ROADS NEED SALT PUT DOWN….most of them are all thick sheets of ice…and are extremly dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
especially if there is to be school tomorrow….how can the buses drive? or even the parents( if there isnt any bus transportation)?

  2. If so many. Streets were not even attempted to be plowed 2 days later we need new commitee men who care and are not just talk talk talk!!!!!

  3. the question I mostly hear during snowy and icey conditions always is where is the twnship plows and sanders they are always the last ones out hours after a storm to make the roadways accessble and safe. there was a time when they worked hard at keeping. the roads safe. What has happened to Lakewood???

  4. how can you say that when 22 out of 30 trucks sat parked for the last 48 hours & only 8 of the went out to plow, HOW CAN YOU GET UP & SAY THEY DID A GREAT JOB???????

  5. Is it possible for TLS to get an answer to the question that everyone in town always wants to know. Why doesn’t the township use salt. Every road that is state or County was blacktop by late morning & basicaly every single township street is at best a bumpy mix of compacted snow & a sheet of ice.

  6. uh????? dont park on the roads??? where exactly should we park now that the township gave builders permits to build more houses then space allows????

  7. Spruce st is horrible. U. Us to get cars off the street but nothing gets done. We’ve seen plows with their blades up. This town is a dissappointment!!!

  8. the problem is too much thanking and no accountability if they didn’t do a great job they should be held accountable and challenged to do a better job.

  9. HEY STEVE ARE YOUR KIDS GOOING TO SCHOOL
what a poor job ive been out since 6am every street is worse
can u explain why miller (county) is better then forest (town) i can just give me a plow and SALT
langert you are no expert just dump FRANKLIN

  10. My street looks as bad as most, but you have to have some perspective. Our DPW did a great job in many places and didnt lose their cool in the face of all you people whose cars are spun out in middle of streets blocking the plows. Some of your builders didnt build proper roads to allow the plows. and some of you….well some of you probably are right to complain a little. All in all, I think Langert deserves a lot of props for putting in all this time and effort to provide service to a bunch of nasty complaining k’ffooyay tovah. Happy holidays.

  11. Time for john Franklin and his crew at the LPW to GO!!!
they failed in this storm after spending MILLIONS of OUR tax dollars to build the brand new public works complex they built a state of the art early warning storm system so they can be ready for a snow storm such as this one , welll…. where were they???? don’t you see its snowing outside???? why 2 days later and the streets are not drivable accept for the ones cleared by the county and state…
and all our elected officials keep on doing is patting them on the back and thanking them…. where is accountability???????
where are the ASKANIM who care sooo much for the klal this is an outrage…. taxes are sky high yet we don’t get the basic services…
    s
and to the committee men stop blaming the parked cars for the lack of the township not plowing the streets..typical lakewood goverment always bkame someone else never accept responsobility…

  12. All you need is one moron getting stuck at a intersection that causes a snow plow to deviate from his route to mess up his ‘ mapped out ‘ route. There were so many of you idiots stuck Saturday night the whole town was like a chinese fire drill. There are thousands of miles of roadway to be plowed in Lakewood, Give these guys a break, they are doing the best they can with the limited amount of qualified drivers they have. There will always be complainers, try to look at the good in events rather than always whining like babies. So you drive a little slower and it takes you a little longer to get to Bagel Nosh. … Don’t worry Dov won’t run out of food.

  13. Salt? No way. Salt on the road gets splashed up onto the car frame and from then on proceeds to rust the car out. In Washington State they do not use salt (only sand) and there are many older cars WITHOUT rusted out areas on them.

  14. I was just waiting at the NJ Transit bus stop at the corner of Rt. 9 and County Line rd and had to wait on Rt 9 can they clear some space on the side walk so that people don’t have to stand right next the cars and trucks coming down rt 9.
    Thanks

  15. Steve- being that you are a great doer – plz do away with the buses refusing to transport the thousands of kids back & forth to schools on snow days. the result is thousands of drivers (mostly un-experienced in the snow & ice) its not enough that the town doesn’t clean the snow- at least dont make us drive over it too!
    thanks in advance

  16. West Gate streets are in bad shape. The one and only plowing was done on Shabbos at app. 4pm. Nothing since. Now it’s all iced up. Please wake up….

  17. WINDERMERE ST IS STILL A SHEET OF ICE. ARE YOU WAITING FOR SOME ONE TO GET HURT CH’VS ?? NOT ALL OF US ARE ON A BEISFAIGA/BMG SCEDULE SOME OF US ACTUALLY HAVE TO GET TO WORK AND LOOSE MONEY WHEN WE DONT. IT WAS BAD ENOUGH NOTHING WAS DONE ON SHABBOS THEN ON SUNDAY. IT IS NOW MONDAY MORNING OVER 48 HOURS AFTER THE FACT ALL ALL WE HAVE IS A SHEET OF ICE!! IM SORRY BUT IVE NEVER COMPANILNED BEFORE BUT THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE BY ANYONES STANDARDS.

  18. In november on voting day I went to vote, and as usual got a first hand look at the real wa$te going on in the LPW. Fancy buildings for what? For who? I pacified myself with the thought.. “Well at least if it snows, well be covered”… And they can’t even get this right?? Millions of our tax dollars wasted, and for the once in 5 years we actually need all that expensive machinery we get these deplorable results?? Who in the twp voted for the waste of our money to the LPW?? Probably the same bunch who voted for the bluclaws stadium… Another wa$te!! Stop the thanking, and get something done!!! No one thanks us for paying taxes, its our duty.. Same is the twp duty to make spend our money properly and do their jobs their being paid to do.. Stop thanking and start working!!!

  19. public school on seventh street was blacktop whith 4 township trucks clearing out the parking lits when there is NO school yet the main streets were residents need to get around are left untouched
    SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!!!
    FRANKKLIN AND CO MUST GO!!!!!

  20. There are two problems here. Large streets like MLK Blvd. are not plowed properly. There is not a problem with parked cars there. It is treacherous and icy. All the county roads like Cedar Bridge are clean as a whistle. Public Works has NO idea how to properly clean the roads. The other problem is high density complexes (that we all push the township to approve) are impossible to plow and properly clean, as the cars parked on the side make it almost impossible to plow.

  21. vote out Bob singer who puushed for the milkions of waste at the new public works facility..
John Franklin has been heading the PW department for too long with no accountability its time for him to GO!!!
and if the current commiteemen don’t apologize or investigate this failure to plow the snow its time to send them packing too..

  22. HELLO ….WHERES THE SALT DONT GIVE ME THIS STORY ABOUT DAMAGING ROADS THE COUNTY USES SALT THEIR ROADS ARE BEAUTIFUL LOOK AT THE TOWNSHIPS ROADS MORE MORE AND MORE SAND WILL NOT HELP SO STOP THE JOKE

  23. john franklin was nasty on all busy with you guys and you guys
    slammed the phone down…

    he got to go !!!!!!!!!!!
were is miller lichtenstein langert ???

  24. #44 – thanks, thats a STATE road, finally someone sticking up for DPW. all the rage is because you all didnt think this much was going to come down. well guess what? NO ONE KNEW! not john franklin, not the committeemen, not YOU! so take a moment and a clue from Hershel, stay inside and blog and be happy you arent in a tent in the homeless park. they have yet to see ONE plow

  25. We are the only block in town that has no parking during snow removal signs. There are no cars parked on the street. AND STILL half the road has not been touched. Just tell me where I can sign up to be a plow driver. I am ready.

  26. Steve on behalf of a many Lakewooders we appreciate your political correctness however getting down to business it’s a disgrace that a township like ours who has millions of dollars of our hard earn tax money can do a job that’s equivalent to a hick town in yehopotzville. Why weren’t trucks doing the streets over the course of the night and if they were there wasn’t enough. I traveled across Lakewood and there are some streets that were done but most of them weren’t done properly. I’ve yet to hear a good excuse as to why not. If you don’t have enough trucks then buy more if you don’t have enough man power then hire temp help, you have the money for it. I’ve spoken to people who were in Brooklyn, Monsey and other areas for the weekend and they explained how as soon as the snow settled there was a team of trucks just constantly going over the roads and it was a breeze to drive on them. I cannot pinpoint the problem but there definitely is one. Whether a lack of planning or whatever we should learn from this and do something to be prepared for next storm. If need be the ppl in charge should go visit other places that do have this down to a science. One doesn’t know how many accidents or c’v injuries can be caused due to this.

  27. Boy do I have so much to say here, I don’t even know where to start. I will leave it simple, all of you who knock steve, better call him and apoligise. You have no clue what he has done for YOU.

  28. If Westgate wants their streets plowed maybe the residents shouldn’t park like idiots. Maybe the cops should start ticketing all the illegally parked cars then the township would have enough money for any project. Of course Franklin would want more money to squander on wasted trucks and buildings. He spent $29,000,000 on that complex and all he was supposed to spend was $14,000,000. Wake up people, this township will be bled dry if the waste continues. We have to stop with all the tax exemptions to make this place operate properly not look to cut vital operations like EMS.

  29. We went to KING and Queens several times but it was blocke w/ cars who thought it was a good idea to drive Saturday Night. Can’t get a plow down the street with cars blocking it.

We want to do are jobs and clean the streets, we need your help to do it.

  30. Congrats for plowing Mountainview Dr., Now please come back and plow out my driveway that we spent 3 hours digging out, and these plows just dumped another 2 feet in front, snowing my car in. Thanks for nothing.

  31. To #4 on pg 2

Don’t think anyone is knocking Langert here…they are all just upset about the lack of professionalism in dealing with this storm. We’ve had these before and there was fair warning we should have been better prepared and responded accordingly.

  32. Steve;we respect you for who you are but please don’t cover up for the shortfalls of this township! I live on a quiet block and most residents actually tried keeping their cars off the street. I have not seen a snowplow on my block in the last 28 hours(I arrived from out of town then). Where are they??? I haven’t seen them around town either so can someone explain? I’m sure they’re not idling but where are they? They did a basic plow(I’m assuming based on what’s on the ground)on my block and never came back. The only block in my area that is clean is the block upon which a township official lives!! So go figure.

  33. Spruce street is still a ” one way street”. We have called the township many times today to plow the sides of the street. No cars have blocked their way all day and not 1 plow came by. What use is our tax money if they can’t plow normally. I know for a fact that the “important” members of our community have their streets and areas plowed well. What about the rest of us.?

  34. You know-from some of the comments here you’d think this was the first time we were taken for a ride with the snowplowing. This is what it is EVERY time it snows, wheather it’s an inch or 10 inches. This storm just happened to be a big one so the problem is just BIGGER. I really wanna know where I can find a snowplow-I’d like to buy him coffee!! Just find him first because I’m having a real tough time!

  35. Check this out. This was taken from the Lakewood Public Works website, what a joke.

    Snow Plowing
Public Works has a DNT Weather Service to track storms and weather disturbances. During a snow storm, a dispatcher keeps track of the 28 trucks that plow and sand Township roads. It takes approximately 12-14 hours to plow the town one time. Main roads are plowed first, then the secondary roads. If the snow in the Downtown area is more than six inches it is plowed to the center of the street and then removed at night times after the stores are closed.

  36. Please pass on the message that Sharon Ct has only a narrow lane, that requires goiong backwards to leave the street. I called the township yesterday & today without a good feeling from the operator. We even spoke to the driver on Sunday when he came & he had a very nasty attitude & just left after one plow eventhough most of the cars were removed prior to him coming.

If possible, can there be posted the email addresses of our township members.

    Thanks.

  37. its not about steve, he was just crediting the people who made an effort to fix the problem at hand. obviously in a town as big and widespread as lakewood there are going to be slip ups, especially because the amount of snow that fell was completely unexpected. stop being so critical ~
