Toms River Police Chief Mitchel Little and Toms River Emergency Management EMS Director Paul Daley recently met with the Captains from Lakewood Hatzolah. This meeting was a cooperative effort between the agencies to share information and discuss EMS protocols when they are requested by residents within the Toms River boarders.
For many years, Hatzolah has serviced the medical needs of people in Toms River in cooperation with the Police Department and EMS Division. They have responded to car accidents, medical emergencies, and private hospital transports.
Lakewood Hatzolah consists of approximately 70 volunteers, including approximately 15 paramedics, and are on call 24/7 – including all holidays – both Jewish and non-Jewish.
With the growing population of Jewish Orthodox residents within Toms River, Chief Little and Director Daley wanted to meet the executives as well as tour their building.
“This meeting was productive and reassured township officials that the equipment and level of care is operating at a high level and equals our standards,” Toms River Police Chief Mitchel Little tells TLS.
The Chief added, “Hatzolah responding within Toms River is nothing new, but we saw this as a chance to build upon our previous relationship. The service they provide is to all faiths and not limited to one particular religion.”
The Lakewood Hatzolah service won’t replace the standard services in Toms River, but rather add to them.
“Toms River Police and EMS will still respond to all 911 emergency calls, however, due to some religious observations residents may elect to have Hatzolah respond to their home.,” the Chief said. “We welcome the skill set that they provide and the assistance that they can offer to all of our residents.”
