Jackson Mayor Mike Reina announced the appointment of three Frum residents to the township’s Open Space Committee.
The three residents, Leah Cusano, Chaim Birnbaum, and Shmuel Gottlieb, will be added to the nine-member advisory board, which will be tasked with locating properties for purchase by the Township and providing recommendations at all stages of the process, from acquisition to development.
The appointments come months after the council initially rejected the ordinance creating the committee, due to some objections over the mayor’s power to appoint members.
The Township has about $6.5 million in funds dedicated to purchasing land to be used for open space.
When asked if he appreciated the fact that Jackson Mayor Mike Reina appointed three frum members to the Jackson Township Open Space Commitee, one frum Jackson resident told reporters on Tuesday: “Listen, I was told that the Open Space Committee had some open space available on the committee, so why not choose these three prominent frum jews to fill the open space on the Open Space Committee.”
The frum Jackson resident added: “Personally, I’d prefer the NASA Space Committee, but the Open Space Committee is pretty cool too!”
