Thousands Of Firefighters And Police Officers From Around The State Rally In Trenton

rally_trentonPHOTO: The attached is a photo of the massive rally currently taking place in Trenton. Over 10,000 police officers and firefighters – members of the PBA and FMBA respectively – from around the state have come to rally against Governor Christie’s Pension Reform. The State PBA says the Governor’s policies and statements are reckless and irresponsible and have resulted in higher crime, higher taxes, and a very dangerous work environment for public safety officials. 1. The whole world is suffering in this economy
Everyone should pitch in; these municipal, state and Federal workers, do better on benefits, and pensions than everyone I know.

    Shrink the gov’t.
We need an entrepreneur to run the Fed to clean out waste.

  2. I work by the statehouse. The crowd does not seem like 10,000 to me.

Perhaps I misundertood/midsheard since I’m tryig to concentrate on my work but I think I heard one of the speakers give Illinois with it’s massive deficits and 66% tax hike as being the example we should follow.

  3. It is time to stop trying to cloud the issue. This is all about money. The unions want to continue getting raises and benefits. The economy is bad and the tax payers can not afford it. The majority appreciate the jobs done by the public workers, but we can not afford what the unions feel they are entitled to. The unions need to share the pain in this economy.

  4. Time to trim some fat from welfare wic and foodstamps. Its absurd to take from people that work before you start cutting from those who really feed off the tax payers.

  5. # 5, I agree with that idea. That issue is another can of worms.

While the idea of welfare and even unemployment is good,- they were first designed for short term use but have now become a way of life for many.

    While welfare is different than unemployment,,,,the same holds true for both;

the longer a person recieves either compeensation, the harder it is for them to get back to being a productive citizen.

I’m not a fan of FDR but in his 1935 State of the Union Address, he mentioned how demoralizing chronic unemployment and ‘relief’ ( now called welfare) is. Long term unemployment and relief collection ruins a persons spirit and dooms them to less than mediocrity.

Alas, some politicians attain office and others remain in office because they campaign with the…I’ll make sure you get more slogan and of course, many folks vote for them because of that.

Goes without saying, that if you are collecting, you want more and you want it to continue longer….and if you are in a union, you want more and so on. If you are non union, you want more pay and look forward to a job that has benefits.

Just human nature, I suppose to want more.

Public sector unions need to realize that the taxpayer does not have an endless supply of cash.

Socialism has always failed mainly because: eventually, you’ll always run out of other people’s money.

Look at the riots and protests thru-out Europe, including Greece.

The socialist system is failing because it is UNSUSTAINABLE.

Life before social security was much different- think about that- how did old folks survive?

The same way young folks survived- FAMILY takes care of FAMILY with love and respect.

Today old folks get thrown into a home.
The new morality stinks. We have fallen as a society in many ways.

REDISTRIBUTION of wealth, always ends in failure, as those contributing run out of contributions, they want more from the ones that are still solvent. The number of contributors declines cintinually and societies revolt.

Sure these protestors are standing for their ways but in reality it will come to an end, always has, always will.

Realize this though….public servants are greatly appreciated.
Changes have to be made so the system can be sustained.

  7. Hey Brian don’t you want your employer to give yu a raise, pension and health insurance? The economy is bad and I can’t keep paying your employer or any other retail company but I continue to because I have to survive. Tax payers will continue to pay because they need to be safe and survive as well. We can’t rely upon volunteers to do these jobhs because they pick and choose too much on what types of calls to answer and they also need to work and earn a living.
Good luck to all of the FMBA and PBA members!!!

  8. First of all the problem comes from the pension system that the public servants pay into. The state government borrowed money from the pension and Whitman allowed townships to not pay into the pension for so long it is coming back to bite everyone in the backside. Now (moderated) wants to make the police, fire, ems, teachers and so on make up that difference and why should they. I believe most towns public services already pay into the benefits packages as well, which by the way aren’t as good as everyone thinks. If you want public service employees to pay more into their benefits thats fine, but what (moderated) is asking for is way too much…..

  9. you wanna save money on welfare? how about having anyone applying for welfare or unemployment pass a drug test. and pass future random tests to stay on welfare or unemployment. i am subject to random drug testing for my job with the county. my check comes from tax payers dollars. why should’nt welfare and unemployment recipients be screened as well. the money comes from the same place!

  10. I am sick and tired of my property taxes going up every year to pay for lavish salaries and benefits of all-teachers, firefighters and police as well….as their families….
I can’t afford to buy my own health insurance but have to make sure none of the greedy union memebers have to pay a single dollar for theirs as well enjoy above 6 figure salaries and pensions.

  11. How about this you pay SS and will expect money back it is the same with pensions they will not be collecting SS. Say cut the fat well what about SS that all you guys will be collecting it is all relative. The PBA is trying to make sure the pensions they are paying into will be there for them just like everyone else wants SS to be available when they retire.

  12. My view is if you don’t pay into it you should not be eligible for it..that goes for SS, Unimployment, Pensions…you don’t deserve what you get for not doing anything..you gotta work for it..

  13. Well they do pay for the pensions but maybe they should be required to pay the same percent as what we pay to SS. That would be the only far thing I don’t know how much they pay into the pension if it is more or less then SS.

  14. thanks muni worker! the reason lots of people stay on welfare is because to get a higher paying job they have to succomb to drug testing. so they only work for min wage jobs at conv. stores and such. oh, yeah and how about the state replacing all the money they “borrowed” from the pens. system! it’s not my fault its all gone.
