Thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry was reported stolen during a daytime home burglary in Lakewood, police confirm to TLS.
At approximately 5:15 pm on February 2nd, Sgt. Joseph Gregg and Officer Ryan Dancey were dispatched to a Newport Drive home after the owner discovered their home had been burglarized.
“Upon arrival, they were informed that sometime during the day, while the residents were not home, an unknown person(s) burglarized their home taking jewelry and cash,” Detective Sgt. Greg Staffordsmith said. Approximately $10,000 in cash was reported stolen, Staffordsmith says, though it’s unknown if the cash was in a safe.
Based on evidence located at the scene, the assistance of a K-9 unit from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Crime Scene Unit were requested.
At this time anyone with information is urged to contact Officer Chase Messer at 732-363-0200 ext. 5345.
