This year, for the first time in 12 years, Rosh Chodesh Iyar falls out on Friday and Shabbos.
Such being the case, we have the special occasion of Kedushah and Simcha together.
Therefore, according to many Poskim, haircuts and shaving are permitted Lekavod Shabbos this year, even for those currently observing Sefira restrictions.
See also these Halachos from Rav Shimon Eider’s Sefer.
This might depend if you keep 1st or 2nd half of sefirah.
As always, ask your Rov.
I THINK THAT THE MISHNA BERURA SAYS YOU COULD NO MATTER WHAT HALF YOU HOLD
I do not plan on shaving based on the words, “I think”.
If you were to tell me 100% that you saw it in the Mishna Berura, that would be a different story.
makes no difference which you hold this is across the board for everyone
Commenting on “knows” comment:
The MB says that this halachah applies “also” to those who are keeping first half of sefira.
Governor Murphy holds you can’t take a haircut at a barbershop. I hope this article doesn’t lead to controversy or more Aiva with our friends in fake news media reporting what our community religious affair leaders believe we are permitted to do. Lakewood should rise up against the hate.
For those that are makpid on R Yehuda Hachasid R Moshe Writes that The Hakpada not to take a haircut on Rosh Chodesh was so you don’t come into Rosh Chodesh without a haircut.. – Since you could not take a haircut before bec. Of sfirah R Yehuda Hachasid does not apply – this logic should only apply if you are keeping the first half of sfirah…
I’m not sure if you understood but this was a halachic ruling regarding haircuts during sefirah it is copmletely unrelated to covid 19 and does not mention anything about barber shops. I’m not sure why every article has to be made political.
barber shops are closed
How is someone supposed to get a haircut safely. There is a reason why barbershops were shut down. If poeple think that having someone come to their house to give a haircut is safe they are mistaken.
People have been giving themselves haircuts all over the country. I went into Wal-Mart a few weeks back and they were sold out of electric clippers, same with many online stores. I have seen online costs for professional barber scissors skyrocket from $30 to $200. So if you see people walking around, looking like a lawnmower ran over their hair, try not to be judgemental.
Your mother/father/brother/wife can very very safely give you a haircut. Please clarify your question.
Please correct the article – First time in eleven years, not twelve.
Might be a good time to learn how to give yourself or your family haircuts! It’s really not very complicated.
PIKUACH NEFOSHOS: It’s muttar to shave the whole sefira due to Covid-19, bec according to the CDC and FDA, N95 masks don’t properly work unles your face is cleanshaven.
My wife gave me a haircut a few weeks ago. I doubt we did it right regarding peyos. Would be a huge to’eles (and publicity for the barber), if a barber can post a clear video of exactly where to be careful etc with peyos and how to do that area. . .
The yeshiva world published an article on how to cut that area
ARE YOU ALLOWED TO TAKE A HAIRCUT OR SHAVE TONIGHT?
SOMEONE PLEASE REPLY ASAP
THANX
