Area blood supply is at a critical low for patients who may need surgery, during trauma situations including difficult births or when receiving treatment for cancer. RWJUH Donor Services is appealing to all healthy residents to help save lives.
“The blood supply has been strained and very unstable since the onset of the pandemic. After 16 months of not having access to many donor groups and now with the uptick in illness due to the Delta variant and the general impact of summer on donor availability, the situation has once again become quite dire,”explains Christopher Ramirez, Regional Administrative Director of Laboratories for Monmouth Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus.
We knew we needed immediate and impactful help so we have partnered with Bikur Cholim and The Lakewood Scoop to host a community blood drive on Thursday, August 19th, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Schulman Conference Center of Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus (600 River Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701).
Blood collected during the drive will remain within the RWJ Barnabas Healthcare network including Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, Community Medical Center, Toms River and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
While walk-ins are welcome, appointments are strongly encouraged. Please call 732-235-8100, ext. 221 for information and to register, or go to www.rwjuhdonorclub.org. All refreshments are being provided by Bagel Nosh and Gelbsteins Bakery. Donors will be entered into a random drawing, for a chance to win a $100.00 gift card. Masks will be required.
[Press Release]
Was so ready to pop in Thursday until I got to the end – masks required. Did they stop and think that maybe that’s why they’re low?!
The drive is being conducted in a medical facility. All people entering medical facilities in NJ are required to wear masks. I hope you will reconsider making a blood donation. The need is real!
Thank you,
Sally Wells
