A resident contacted TLS this evening in hopes of getting his Talis & Tfillin back after they were stolen from his vehicle. Last night, between the hours of 9:00-10:30 PM, the victim’s vehicle was broken into while it was parked near R’ Leifer’s Shul on Monmouth Avenue.
The thief busted the car door window and proceeded to steal the victim’s Talis & Tfillin, thinking perhaps it was something ‘more of value’.
The owner was hoping the thief may have dumped it in a nearby trash bin after discovering its contents, and has searched several trash bins in search of it.
The owner is asking area residents to please keep an eye open for his Talis & Tfillin bag, and contact 732=730-3646 if it’s found. TLS.
Tfillin should Never be left in a car. Hot & cold weather damage them.
Wow thanks 2 cents we were all wondering the proper way to care for them!!!and for tohelp rub it in for the person who mistakenly left them in his car!! You rock!!!
Do what they do in nyc! They put a piece of paper with the printed statement: “NOTHING VALUABLE INSIDE THIS CAR.” -in large letters so the thieves can see. (and make sure the car looks empty!)
to #3 Great idea. I would just reccomend that the sign be in spanish.
A note taped on the plasic stating : THIS POUCH CONTAINS RELIGOUS ARTICLES $$$ REWARD $$$ FOR THEIR UNDAMAGED RETURN with your phone number. This is generally a good precaution if your tefillin are misplaced.
to (#4) this is hysterical, i think your on to something:

tefillin is known to get ruined by cold and more so by hot. a car can reach to a deadly tempature with windows closed in the summer heat
actually mr. conservative. i don’t believe it makes sense to put a paper on your car saying “nothing valuable in this car”. i don’t care what they do in new york, but i think that’s reason for a thief to steal from a car no matter what a piece of paper says. even if it looks empty. the best thing is to simply not have anything of value in a car.
i have an idea dont leave anything valuable in the car…and if u have to or your going to put it in the trunk that way the thief cant see what the object is
At least the officer that came out helped the victim search for his Talis & Tfillin was given absolutely no credit in this article…
