Drivers in North Ocean County are among the worst drivers in the state, according to a study by LendingTree’s QuoteWizard, which ranked all municipalities in the state.
According to the study, which is based on the number of accidents, citations, speeding tickets and DUIs in each city, five of the 10 worst municipalities with the worst drivers are in Ocean County, with Brick Township finishing dead last.
Just above Brick, are Howell, Jackson, Woodbridge and Middletown, with Toms River, Lakewood, Old Bridge, Wayne and Manchester rounding out the worst 10.
By contrast, the best drivers in the state are in North Bergen, followed by Vineland, Hackensack, Elizabeth and Paterson.
Statewide, the study found that drivers in New Jersey receive fewer citations than most states, ranking fourth-best in that category, but when it comes to DUIs and speeding, they are among the worst.
Overall, New Jersey is ranked as the 18th-best state to drive in.
The study also found that, as is the case in most states, New Jersey drivers under the age of 20 have more dangerous driving incidents than any other age group.
Those between the ages of 40 and 49 see the lowest number of incidents overall, and are nearly five times less likely to cause an infraction than those under 20.
However, motorists over the age of 80 are, surprisingly, better drivers than those ages 20 to 29.
“….over the age of 80 are, surprisingly (??) better drivers than ages 20 -29”
Is your surprise based on facts or prejudice? Never got cut off on the right by an 80 yr old in a big hurry??
If Lakewood PD actually handed out tickets then the results would have definitely been more representative.
There are NJ Towns with Worse Drivers Than Lakewood, Study Shows
“Sorry, but they’re not going to take away the title of the state’s ‘Worst Drivers’ from Lakewood,” said one notoriously bad Lakewood driver, as he zoomed past two cars in a single lane and overtook them, while knocking down a few traffic lights on the way. “I know for certain that we’ve got the worst drivers in NJ, hands down, and I probably top the list as the city’s most awful and most dangerous driver.”
“This study is just more fake news,” he said.
“Lakewood is the state champion of reckless driving, and ain’t nobody gonna take that title away from us!” he hollered to a couple of pedestrians, as he narrowly missed knocking over 5 garbage bins, while managing to destroy 3 fire hydrants.
“And we’ll remain the champs forever, until the drivers of a different NJ town create more havoc on the road than we do!” he yelled, as he drove his car into Lake Carasaljo, opened up the window of his car, pulled out a fishing rod, and managed to snag a few fish and an old pair of shoes, size
9 1/2.
“Not my size,” he said, as he opened up his car door and swam to safety, “but it will do for now.”
“I’m an incredibly bad driver,” he boasted, “and a pretty good fisherman too.”
Hands down and off the steering wheel, no doubt! But how bad can he be if – according to your narrative – he didn’t knock over even one electric poll??? All in all, I hope he returned home in time for supper with some fish.
Tzorich iyun on the electric polls, but he did indeed return home in time for supper with the fish. Problem is, his wife knows less about cooking than he knows about driving; she ended up cooking the shoes for supper.
Nowadays you can buy a cake in the shape of a shoe.
just google it-bunch of results
pretty nice comment there
It is incredibly unfair to consider Lakewood’s drivers to be the issue.
The people of Lakewood are exceptionally fine people. This is a bustling city of stop signs (!) with barely any road rage! it’s a testament to the fine people of this town that anyone here is ever able to make a left turn.
The infrastructure is most lacking in Lakewood. I do not blame the drivers.
My car was hit by a driver who illegally passed on the right on a narrow residential road. He could have killed someone. He was in a hurry. I pull over for a school bus, and the driver behind me passes me rather than wait for the bus. He could hit a child running for the bus. He was in a hurry. I see people every day on their phone or texting while they are driving. I’ve been honked at by a driver who thinks I should have pulled out onto route 9 quicker. He was in a hurry. These are not infrastructure problems. These are driver problems.
That’s why we need traffic calming like in NYC
I agree with Zman
The most shocking driving infraction I encountered (twice!) was when the car behind me was in a hurry and thought I was taking too long to make a left turn. He came around me on the right and made the turn ahead of me. This was totally unexpected and it was a neis that I noticed it last minute as I made my turn a second later and missed hitting him by a few inches.
When driving expect the the unexpected. That never happened to me for some reason i guess it must be because if i could go i don’t hesitate and take 5 min to turn. If it happened to you twice that must be an indication of your driving skills!
Zman is 100% correct. If tickets were issued it would look much worse. Yet it is also true that there are many simple things that could be done to make traffic flow better that still havent been done. These include extending turning lights in areas where there are huge backups of cars turning etc…And of course a complete stoppage of new development would of course help as well.
Even when the infrastructure geniuses manage to provide us with a left turn lane and green arrow, there are still problems. Don’t you just love it when the 1st driver in the left turn lane is texting or yapping on the phone, or day dreaming, so that when the arrow turns green they just sit there? Two or three additional cars could have made the turn but now can’t, because of that first driver’s inconsiderate inattention. And inevitably, one or two other frustrated drivers take their chances and run the light after the arrow turns red. Happens all the time.
No one should be using a cellphone while driving second of all I see old people driving like snails or having things hanging on their rearview mirror and people having health problems
