The Weekly National News Roundup – by Shlomo Rudman

Bomb Suspect Arrested – A 56-year old Florida man has been arrested in connection with explosive devices being sent to vocal Trump critics. Cesar Sayoc Jr., formerly of New York, was arrested Friday morning in Aventura, Florida. Records show that he is a registered Republican and that he’s been previously arrested for making terroristic threats. A white van plastered with pro-Trump stickers was seen being loaded by investigators onto a flatbed. Twelve crude IED’s were mailed to various public officials, including the Obamas, Clintons, former US intel officials, George Soros, CNN headquarters, and sitting US Senators, including New Jersey’s Cory Booker. It is not yet confirmed that Sayoc was working alone, and the investigation is continuing.

Caravan Heading To US – A massive caravan of about 4000 people, mostly Hondurans, are heading to the US border with Mexico in hopes of getting admitted into the US. The caravan is comprised of mostly poor individuals who survived on less than $5 a day in Honduras. President Trump and his backers have used the caravan to promote his stance that the border must be better reinforced.

US Pulls Out Of Nuclear Arms Treaty – President Trump announced that he would be withdrawing the US from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia, saying the Russians have been violating the terms of the treaty for many years. The agreement, signed by Presidents Reagan and Gorbachev in 1987, forced both countries to eliminate all their ground-based nuclear weapons with ranges of 300 to 3400 miles, offering the US a blanket protection of the homeland as well as European allies. Analysts are concerned that pulling out of the treaty may precipitate an arms race akin to that of the Cold War.

Russian Arrested For Interference – A Russian woman has been arrested for attempting to interfere in the 2018 midterm elections. Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova, 44, was charged with playing a role in a Kremlin-backed plan to conduct an information warfare campaign in the United States. She is the first foreigner to be arrested for attempting to influence the upcoming elections.

Putin Invited To WH – National Security Advisor John Bolton said Friday that President Trump has extended an invitation to Russian President Putin to meet at the White House. President Trump has long expressed his desire to get along with the Russian Federation, saying it would be a positive step for the United States. The two leaders have had just one summit together, in Helsinki, Finland in July.

Stocks Enter Correction – US stocks had a rough week, following disappointing corporate earnings and increased geopolitical fears. Although economic numbers for the third quarter showed a healthy 3.5% growth rate, it was not enough to stem investors fears, who continued selling off their stock holdings. The S&P 500 entered correction territory as it’s value dropped by over 10% from it’s high. A correction can be a natural part of the stock market cycle, but it can also be a marker for a prolonged recession.
