VIDEO: The Vital Work of Agudah’s New Jersey Office: Become our Vital Partner.

A famous public figure once remarked that in askanus, there are no market corrections. That statement was crystallized over the last year for Rabbi Avi Schnall, Agudah’s New Jersey Director.

Just a few, long pre-Corona months ago, the Lakewood suite containing the New Jersey Office of Agudath Israel of America was a hub of activity: Rabbi Schnall was hosting a series of conferences with his colleagues in the nonpublic school community in between meetings with the key players of the New Jersey legislature. His office was also initiating a campaign to increase the allocation set aside for special education funding to yeshivos and letters had to be written, legislators contacted, statements prepared and testimony delivered. This was in addition to spending countless hours with lawyers involved in Agudah’s protracted legal fight against Jackson Township and a myriad of other activities that had to be attended to from one of New Jersey’s most noted askanim.  Then came the coronavirus pandemic. And with it a fresh wave of emergency issues that needed urgent attention.

School was out, but what about school lunches? Families were relying on them and a way to ensure they continued would have to be worked on. Breadwinners were out of work. The new rules as towards who was eligible for unemployment benefits meant individuals would need help navigating a baffling system. Businesses were forced to shut. Many were being offered government loans- some quite attractive, yet Congress was changing the guidelines by the minute and with every nuance, millions of dollars were at stake and businesses and mosdos needed someone to bring them the most updated information. As the pandemic grew, so did the issues- and Agudah was there every step of the way, serving the community, our mosdos and every individual.

Yet, that didn’t preclude our most pressing pre-Corona issues from being attended to. The annual fight of ensuring funds for Lakewood busing would still have to continue- and with the State losing almost $9 billion in revenue, it would be harder than ever. This past year also unhappily reminded us of the need for school security funding, and given the abysmal State budget, there were no guarantees. Our mosdos continued to reach out for guidance on the rules and regulations surrounding governmental funding. And somehow, again, Agudah was there. Before, during and after Corona, the New Jersey Office has been there providing vital resources, counsel and guidance, allowing the frum tzibbur to thrive.

This coming Tuesday, Agudah will be holding a first-ever Charidy campaign. Every dollar is matched by a group of generous donors, so every donation is worth double. To support Agudah’s vital work go to
