Everybody knows ‘Reb Meir Baal Hanes’! It’s on everyone’s mind and on everyone’s lips whenever they lose something or are in a quandary and need an extra dose of Siyata D’shmaya or are doing a business deal and need some heavenly assistance. Of course, Elaka d’Meir Aneinu is the battle cry for answers.  

But what most people probably don’t know, is that Kollel Shomrei Hachomos Reb Meir Baal Hanes is more than just an expression, more than just a Tefilah, it’s a living, breathing organization – in operation for over 150 years already – that helps Mishpachos across Eretz Yisroel live with dignity.

The current annual budget of Kollel Shomrei Hachomos exceeds $16 Million, plus an additional $8 Million in interest-free loans. This all-but-impossible annual budget allows over 55.000 individuals  to experience Shabbos, Yom Tov, Simchos and a general day-to-day Simchas Hachaim that they otherwise would be unable to attain.

This mammoth budget is not a luxury; it is a total necessity, without which thousands upon thousands of Yidden would literally not have the means with which to survive.

The Lakewood community, which has a well-deserved reputation as a city built on Torah, Avodah and Gemilus Chasadim, is known for its tremendous response to Tzedaka causes that matter to Klal Yisroel at large. Kollel Shomrei Hachomos has a deep base of support in Lakewood and has been supporting the organization for decades. The esteemed Lakewood Rosh Yeshiva, Harav Dovid Schustal Shlita is a Nasi of the Kolel, a position he inherited from his late father, the great Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Simcha Schustal Zatzal.

For the past few years already, Lakewood has hosted an annual Shomrei Hachomos dinner and with each passing year, the support from city residents has grown. Last year, the dinner featured a first-time-ever live video hookup with the Posek Hador, Hagaon  Harav Moshe Sternbuch Shlita, Ra’avad of the Eidah Hachareidis in Yerushalayim, who responded to Halachic questions posed to him by residents of Lakewood. The community watched spell-bound as the Rav Sternbuch discussed timely issues, and discussed his personal connection to, and support of, the holy work of Kollel Shomrei Hachomos.

This year’s dinner, which will take place on Wednesday, July 12, in The Tiferes Ballroom at 613 Oak Street, will once again make history, as there will be a live hookup from Yerushalayim with the saintly Tolna Rebbe, Rav Yitzchok Menachem Weinberg Shlita, a man known for his piety and his grasp of matters related to Chinuch, Hashkafa, Bayis Hayehudi and Simchas Hachaim. Thousands visit the Rebbe with their questions and seek out his Brachos and wise counsel. The Lakewood community now has the opportunity to submit their own questions and watch them being answered live by the Rebbe Shlita, at the dinner. The excitement in the air is truly palpable, as such a live hookup with the Rebbe is a truly historic opportunity.

Residents of Lakewood are invited to submit their questions for the Tolna Rebbe Shlita via email to [email protected]. The Rebbe will be answering as many of the questions as possible in the allotted time for the hookup, and it will truly be a not-to-be-missed event.

The Nezer Gabai Kodesh D’Reb Meir Baal Hanes award will be presented to noted Askan, R’ Shea Pesachya Friedman, who is extremely involved in the Hatzlacha of Kollel Shomrei Hachomos. R’ Shea Pesachya goes in the footsteps of his late father-in-law, the irreplaceable R’ Shia Hollander Z”L, a chavar vaad hapoel of Kollel Shomrei Hachomos, who passed away in Elul 5775.   R’ Hollander Z”L was a very wise individual who always provided wise guidance to the Kollel in all matters. It is a true Zechus for the Kollel to continue his eternal legacy via the askanus of his son-in-law and his entire family.

The guest speaker at the dinner will be Rav Shaul Simcha Friedman, esteemed Rav of K’hal Shemen L’Mincha in the Brookhill neighborhood, a dynamic speaker and one of the choshuver Rabbanim of the city of Lakewood.

Kollel Shomrei Hachomos is there for Klal Yisroel 24/7, and it will be a tremendous Chizuk for the many Askanim involved in this organization from around the world- including many Lakewood Askanim – if each and every member of the Lakewood Tzibur would take an hour or two out of their schedule to be a part of it, physically and financially.

Elaka D’Meir Aneinu, may the Ribono Shel Olam who enables Reb Meir Baal Hanes to answer the call of so many downtrodden Yidden, answer all our Tefilos and grant the Lakewood Tzibur who supports this worthy organization with abundant Bracha and Hatzlacha always.
