Tent At Tent City Goes Up In Flames; Nobody Injured

PHOTOS & VIDEO: A tent at Lakewood’s homeless camp went up in flames this afternoon, as first reported on our News Alerts. The tent, located about 200 feet into the woods, was fully engulfed in flames when police arrived at the camp and it began spreading to the nearby trees.

The fire department responded along with a brush truck in order to gain access to the tent.

By the time the fire was out, the tent and all it’s contents were completely destroyed. No nearby tents caught fire.

There were no reports of any injuries. TLS.

Was the red cross called to relocate those misplaced by the tent fire?

what are we waiting for? A massive forest fire before we remove them?

how did the fire start?

Sadley, the only thing that will shut this camp down is a massive fire that kills most of the residents. Unfortunately at that point, there will be no one left to relocate.

I sure hope the judge who sent this to a mediator, and the mediator are looking at all the faces of the emergency responders who are risking life and limb to save a bunch of junk illegally located in the woods. If something happens to any one of them (responders) the blood is on their hands, now tell me mr. judge and mediator is it going to be worth it?

Be careful for what you wish, a small fire in the woods on any given
day could wipe out half the neighborhoods in town because of the densely build homes that are up against even the smallest patch of woods. look out west to see what can happen.

shut it down

If they die in a forrest fire, their family will sue lakewood and everyone else who failed to have a backbone and act on this circus.

And a forrest fire can spread like it does out west. And with lakewoods packed communities = hope your house isn’t next.

An abandoned tent in a less populated area of Tent City catches fire while the Minister and many of the people from Tent City are across the street at a protest rally. Something other than the smoke from the fire smells here.

This fire occurred near one of the entrances that was recently blocked with wood chips by the DPW . As you can see from the video, it took quite a while for the LFD to get a truck close enough to get a hose to the fire. Had the road not been blocked, the LFD could have gotten to the fire much quicker

This is crazy. Why doesn’t the fire dept. open up a sub station at this place. Keep a fire truck , police car, and ambulance stationed there at all times. This way they can save on gas traveling to the constant emergencies there. Great idae? Well, if they will not close down that place, this is the best idea so far.

@ # 15

If the road hadn’t been blocked, there would have been another twenty residents in Tent City, and perhaps many of them would have been killed in this fire.

It’s a good thing they’re blocking those roads and preventing more people from joining Tent City.

to # 17.
If you keep on cutting the fire budget, the fire trucks will have to be parked there under tarps with the other non-wanted citizens!!!

DPW just follow orders, they won’t do that without somebody’s approval.

#18: Seriously, do you really think that blocking the roads have stopped people from coming here. There are only two people here with cars. Everyone else either walks or has a bicycle. I can assure you that no has been deterred from moving into tent city because of a mound of mulch at two of the entrances. The only thing those mounds of mulch have done is created an obstacle for the LPD and LFD if they need to come here on an emercency
