TEHILLIM: Lakewood Boy in Serious Condition After Choking on Candy Toy; Updated – Candies Pulled from Shelves [PHOTOS]

A young Lakewood boy is in serious condition after choking on a candy toy today.

The eight-year-old boy was eating the candy which contained a ball, and the ball apparently became detached and swallowed by the boy.

Hatzolah found the boy unconscious, and treated him on scene before transporting him to the ICU Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he is currently in serious condition.

He underwent surgery to have the toy removed.

”Definitely put out a warning about this licking candy – this is the ball they took out of him,” the father told TLS.

UPDATE: In response to this incident, the candy’s distribution company is pulling the candy from store shelves.

  1. Is this from the roller candy? My son choked on this a few years ago luckily he did the heimlich on himself and the ball came shooting out- I promised myself that I would follow up to have this candy banned but unfortunately never did. May he have a refua shelaima!!!

  2. Besides being dangerous, these candies are disgusting. They look like roll on deodorant and who would want to lick those? They must be banned, along with all the other stupid things put out there on the market with tons of food coloring, sugar and all the other unhealthy junk kids eat.

  3. On the same note the sippy straws should be pulled as well the straw can easily be inhaled or purposefully eaten by a young child!!

  4. With all due respect, these candies are good stuff! Perhaps we can start a petition to ask the company to make it safer. But these candies should not be banned!

      • The ingredients are simple. High fructose corn syrup some citric acid and coloring. The cost is about $2 to purchase and no way to recycle the plastic.
