New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s clashes with the state’s largest teachers union is hurting the reputations of both parties, according to a poll. Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind finds only one-third of the state’s voters have a favorable opinion of the New Jersey Education Association. And 44 percent have an unfavorable view of the organization. That’s a change from a poll released two months ago, when there was an even split in public opinion — and far fewer state residents had any opinion on the group. The union has protested a reduction in aid to schools.
Christie is calling on teachers to take voluntary wage freezes.
The poll also finds anger that many school superintendents make more than $200,000. AP
