Target is Slashing Prices on Thousands of Commonly Purchased Items

As lawmakers in Trenton consider raising the state sales tax for the first time in nearly two decades, Target Corp. announced today that it will lower prices on nearly 5,000 everyday products, as consumers continue to cut back on purchases due to inflation.

“We know consumers are feeling pressured to make the most of their budget, and Target is here to help them save more,” Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief food, essentials and beauty officer at Target, said in a statement.

“Our teams work hard to deliver great value every day, and these new lower prices across thousands of items will add up to additional big savings for the millions of consumers that shop Target each week for their everyday needs,” he added.

Most of the price cuts, which are already in place on about 1,500 products, are concentrated in grocery items, as well as paper towels and diapers, with many cuts affecting its company-owned Good & Gather and Everspring brands.

Today’s announcement follows their paid membership plan revealed earlier this year, which added in deals and rewards for purchases made by users, on top of the current free loyalty program already in use.

Target has faced months of declining sales following a controversy over its Pride Month assortment last year, when it pulled some products after pushback from consumers who were offended by the placement of the products, and last fiscal year suffered their first annual sales decline in seven years.

  1. I stopped buying from them since they shoved that whole pride garbage last year in everyone’s face. I try not to buy anything there and only on extremely rare occasions if I’m stuck. I used to do tons of shopping there for stuff I couldn’t buy in the local Lakewood community stores. They’ll probably make the same mistake as last yr and I have no plans of going back there.

  2. Biden: “If Target Slashes Its Prices, I’m Adding a Federal Sales Tax On All Target Purchases To Help Cut Back on Consumer Spending And Lower the Rate of Inflation!”
When informed on Monday that the Target Corporation is lowering prices on nearly 5,000 everyday products to assist consumers who’ve been consumed by the high rate of inflation, President Biden told reporters that Target’s latest initiative leaves him with little choice but to add a new federal sales tax to all Target purchases in order “to cool down the high rate of inflation.”
“Clearly, Target’s latest initiative will lead to a rise in consumer spending and an an increase in consumer demand,” Mr. Biden asserted, “which, in turn, will lead to an increase in the prices of goods, and subsequently a higher rate of inflation.”
“Hence,” Mr. Biden asserted, “I’m left with little choice but to add a federal sales tax on Target purchases in order to decrease both consumer spending and consumer demand, which, in turn, will help lower the prices of consumer goods, which, in turn, will keep inflation rates at the incredibly low level that it has been during my 4-years in office.”
“They don’t teach you these kind of economic fundamentals in school,” Mr. Biden noted, “but when you’ve been in government office as long as I’ve been, you pretty much learn these things on your own.”

  3. Years ago I used to shop in Target weekly, now I go into Target occasionally, they have a good children’s Toys department of which I look at dolls and trucks for my grandchildren & whenever I used to stop in there I used to also load up my cart with Water, Soda, bathroom tissue for my business but recently I can’t touch anything there, they now charge over $8 for a 12 pack of soda cans, $7.95 for a 24 pack of Poland Spring ( at Wal-Mart it’s $6.95 for a 36 pack) and even on sale it’s still crazy.
Recently I’ve been getting letters that if I don’t use my Target Red Card soon they will be closing it which they never do.
Target is a nice store for Ladies and kids,( Wal-Mart is more for men) but if Target will drop their prices as they claim I will definitely go there more often.

  4. After going into a Target and seeing an absurd amount of very questionable alternative lifestyle materials, and a man dressed as a woman at the front of the women’s dressing rooms, we decided never to step foot into that establishment again. It’s simply unsafe for women and children.

  5. I haven’t shopped there since last year’s horrific display. I used to shop there at least once a week and spent lots of money.
I do drive by occasionally and I wonder why I see so many frum people coming out of there. Do they want to support this immorality being shoved down our and our children’s faces?

  6. I will start shopping there again when they institute “Men only” hours & cover any “Questionable” product pictures (Read: Women) with duct tape.
Why should a simple Yid like me who adheres to the highest standards of Kedusha be exposed to a box with a picture of a Bubby shilling “Denture Cleaner”?
As is my custom I immediately called my Ruv (& noted Posek) again this morning (My 1st Shaila today was about buying a Bridgestone tire as there is a “Bridgestone Arena” in Tennessee which sells Treif food & I was concerned it may be Maras Eyin to have their name on my tire.)
1st my Ruv suggested due to the complexity & frequency of my Shailas I should perhaps find another Ruv (I think he mentioned what sounded like “Restraining order” but I think he meant “Retaining border”.) Anyway, my Ruv said that while it’s Muttar to destroy these problematic products, Halacha also requires me to pay for them. Now how is a guy like me whose wife is already working 3 jobs so I can sit & learn going to pay for these damaged products?
