PHOTOS: A tanker attempting to avoid crashing into the drivers door of a vehicle, instead crashed into the median, spilling oil on the road and causing a 5 hour detour. The incident occurred about 1:30 AM at the intersection of Route 70 and New Hampshire Avenue, when the tanker driver reportedly attempted to avoid crashing into a vehicle which ran a red light.
The tanker avoided crashing into the other vehicle’s driver’s door, but hit two vehicles before slamming into the median. The crash ruptured the tanker, spilling oil into the roadway, but no drivers were injured in the crash.
The crash caused Route 70 to be shut in both directions, and prompted a response from Lakewood’s Traffic & Safety division and the Berkeley Haz-Mat team.
The vehicles were finally cleared by Barina’s and Grone’s Towing at about 6:00 AM, in time for rush hour traffic. TLS-89/TLS-RBA/TLS-CCP.

a SPECIAL thank you to the obnoxious idiot driver who ran a red light and caused what could have been a major, deadly disaster.
this is why the Emergency Services divisions, Police, Fire and EMS should receive what is needed to care for all of us. Not give money to freely spend but to be prepared. This could have been bad and affected thousdands.
There was injuries that Lakewood EMS transported….Let’s get the facts of the stories please…
