Swerving To Avoid A Pothole? Cops May Think You’re Drunk

swerving.jpg2Hilarious may be the first word which pops in to your head, but it was just an officer doing his job. Last night, a Lakewood motorist swerving on the road, was pulled over by police, possibly being mistaken for a drunk driver. But it turns out the driver wasn’t under the influence of alcohol or any other substance.

The reason for swerving? He was just trying to avoid a pothole. TLS-CC.

  1. Just tell the cop you were avoiding a pothole!
If he doesn’t believe you, take a breathalyser test.
What’s the big deal?? Why is this worthy of a news story!?

  2. Just another example of LPD over policing the upstanding citizens, rather than stopping crime. BTW was this @ the same time as the gangs were spraying grafiti?

  3. Just curious, you obviously don’t live in West Gate, but why did West Gate pop into your head out of all the hundreds of roads in Lakewood. Anyway, come on down to West Gate and you’ll be hard pressed to find pot holed streets. (Unless, of course, your driving on roads near current housing construction.)

  4. #6, do whatever you can safely do to avoid driving throuigh what looks like a puddle but one out of 50 times will be a pothole.

  5. …and if it WAS in fact a drunk driver, me thinks you’d all be singing a different tune.

Lay off the criticism. How was the cop supposed to know why the driver was driving so erratically???

  6. actually this is totally understandable. people don’t understand how hard it is to be a cop. i’m not a cop but i can imagine it’s no easy job. this story may seem humorous but we have to remember. cops are people too. they make mistakes just like we do. don’t blame the cop. he’s just doing his job and making sure things are safe. have respect for them. they do the best they can.

  7. In NY, people used to say that when someone drove straight the cops suspected him as being drunk, sober people constantly swerved to avoid potholes.

  8. @ #6 How can water hide something?
@ #8 the water will pool in a specific location (AKA puddle) only because there is a depression (AKA pothole) under it.

IN OTHER NEWS; the cops pulled over someone for speeding and he said he had to get to the hospital. NEWS FLASH!!!!

  9. Its are job to protect the neighbor hood if you would see that what would u think. God forbid he hit someone then what would you say.

  10. Number 5…what a loser you are. I bet if that driver was drunk and they hit or killed your family, you’d be screaming as to why the cops weren’t doing their jobs. Grow up!
