Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement in honor of Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day: “Today is a day for all New Jerseyans, of any faith, to pay their respects to those lost to the unimaginable cruelty of the Holocaust. The six million Jewish lives stolen by the Nazis during the Holocaust are a chilling example of what can happen when we allow hatred and bigotry to run unchecked.
“Today we must also recognize the triumphant spirit embodied by those who survived such horror and we must steel our resolve to call out any type of anti-Semitic, dehumanizing behavior and rhetoric before it rises to the terrible level seen during World War II.
“Only by standing up and fighting against such racism can we confidently say, never again.”
