As earlier reported on TLS Status, a pedestrian crossing outside the crosswalk on Rt. 9 in Lakewood this morning was struck by a vehicle.
The pedestrian can be seen getting up and walking to the side.
But moments after being struck by the vehicle, the pedestrian and multiple friends of his – reportedly from the muster zone – allegedly gathered around the driver’s vehicle, banged on the driver’s window and demanded cash.
“This appears to be a scam from people looking to extort cash from driver’s,” a relative of the driver told TLS.
Police arrived moments later and disbanded the group.
Police also placed the blame on the pedestrian for failing to cross at a crosswalk.

Typical scam don’t fall for this rabosai!
looks like he actually jumped in front of the car on purpose. Risking his life for a few bucks.

The speed limit for Route 9 in the center of Lakewood, I think it is 45 mph, that speed limit is in place for about 40 years. Most of Route 9 in the Lakewood area from Route 88 till 14th St. is truly a residential area and the limit should be lowered. There are millions of people all over the place. You can not drive 45 mph in a residential zone.
Why not? Cars do that in our neighborhood in Jackson all day long. The speed limit is 25.
Yes, they do this and then collect insurance too. Happened to my friend. Someone jumped on her windshield.
I personally witnessed this incident.
The pedestrian looked like an illegal alien who could barely speak English.
Immediately after the pedestrian was hit, a couple of furious black thugs showed up (not visible in the video) screaming and ranting that the driver must pay the pedestrian who was hit.
When a few witnesses contested the claims of the thugs, the thugs menaced the witnesses.
These thugs hang out near gas stations.
It might be a good idea when you are passing a gas station on Rt. 9 (between Kennedy Blvd and Central Av.) to slow down a drop.
As if we don’t have enough traffic already on Rt. 9…
I drove by before the police showed up and I saw a bunch of immigrants from the place where they wait for work at 1st and madison, standing around this Shaken poor lady. Glad they didn’t get any cash out of her. Something we should all keep in mind before we go to find cheap labor from these “upstanding” individuals.
I was once stopped at the light by Martin luther when a guy came out of nowhere from the side of my vehicle saying I drove over his foot. He told me he was ok but needs $75 for an ambulance….I told him i dont have cash I’ll go get some and i never went back after realizing he just wants cash
